Description
I would like to report both the over population of geese and the sensless killing of these birds. I first want to apoligize for attacking people on this topic, because that is not my overall intention. I think that we all can agree that the overpopulation of animals in this area is a problem. I would like to back up my original comment that I strongly feel that running the geese over in the road to save a few minutes is the wrong sollution. I promise not to comment on any replies to that comment. I think and hope that there should be some type of animal control to distribute these animals, maybe relocate or something so that they are not in harms way. Let us see some of out tax dollars do some good,OK,and not just for the geese at the Mentor headlands marsh. It was good that they made a big deal out of saving a few ducks by moving them from one side of the road to the other side that was not on fire. Animal control is what is needed. God bless, and thank you for letting me post this.

No local tax dollars should be used for gease control.
I don't think drivers go hunting with their cars to run down gease, I have seen more rabbits and racoons killed by cars but NEVER seen a goose hit by a car.
As far a relocating gease; No way they will just fly back, I know I was involved in this about 30 years ago when people in mentor were complaining about gease on their newly built homes and lawns.
If people were to get more involved in hunting maybe we can wipe out the goose problem. Think of all the good dinners we could have.
Were just talking about over abundant animals here, no big thing.
Lets work on safe driving and teenage driving, they are killing each other with their cars.

Did you know that geese:- eat more than 1-5 pounds of grass per day- produce about 1-2 lbs of waste per day- average about 5 goslings per year- weigh 20 to 25 pounds- mate for life and will stay togetherthroughout the year- are federally protected by theMigratory Bird Treaty Act
Take Flight Goose Management, LLC
Mating
• Mating season is February to early April.
• Geese will find a new mate if the mate is killed or dies.
• Geese return to the area of their birth each year to mate
and nest.
Nesting
• Nesting season is Mid March to May.
• Geese begin to nest at the age of 2.
• Geese will return to the exact site of the previous years nest
or sometimes a nearby pond or other body of water.
• When geese are chased from their traditional nesting area they
find alternative sites to nest.
• Geese will appear in pairs during nesting season. A solitary goose
typically indicates that a nest is in the vicinity and "he" is
standing guard.
• The average number of eggs in a nest is 5-6. However, there can
be as many as 10-12.
• Incubation time is 28 – 30 days.
Hatching/Maturing
• The goslings will be able to fly in 2-3 months.
• During the maturing time the adult geese do not leave the area.
• The geese will attack humans while protecting their young.
• The maturing period of the goslings overlaps with the molting
season for the adults.
Molting
• Molting season runs from early June to late July.
• Adult geese lose wing feathers during this time and are unable
to fly.
• Geese can fly again approximately 6 weeks after molting.
• Generally by August all geese are able to fly.
• During the molt geese need to be near water (any water) for
easy escape from predators.
Migration
• Migration season is October through March.
• Migratory geese flight range can be 2 – 3 thousand miles.
• Migratory geese do not become resident geese unless they are
injured.
• Resident geese do not know how to migrate.
• Resident geese can fly long distances as their migratory cousins,
but generally have learned that it is not necessary.
• Generally, during this time (from end of molt to beginning to
mating) resident geese will be "pond hopping" and foraging to find
food, water and safety. Although, resident geese have a flight
range of 100-200 miles, they typically stay within a smaller
radius.
• Migratory geese will "pond hop" and forage during this same
period until their migration habits take them back north for
mating.
The way that I see this is if we break the pattern of where geese are hatched it will also change the way they migrate as well, see? God bless.

Let me ask you what is so much more important about an eagle as apposed to any other bird, or even yourself or myself for that matter? We as humans are responsible for all of the overpopulation of and extinction of all of the animals that went extinct.
It is in my opinion that God made humans above all animals because we know better than them and that it is our responsibility to make it right with all animals, not just with the Eagles.
I think that most importantly is that if you kill an animal you should eat it, not just enjoy watching the poor critter die in agony to save a few minutes of commute time. Please do not get me started again. Anyway that is my response, God bless.

Hey "birdfriend" How is the law suit going for playing cop and pulling a driver from their car?
By the way Bird dropings carry disase, just ask the infectious Doctor in Beachwood.
Since the late 60's when the gease started to come to lake county; They have been hunted, hit by cars and died from old age, but they still bred beyound expections. As far as no one looking out for these animals you are wrong. There are many groups and the US Goverment doing a lot to protect migatory birds. The only problen with the new generation gease is they don't migrate any more. Try saving somethig else.

I do agree that birds to me are never a problem, unless we think of it as a problem. I think by what you said that it is obvious that there are people who simply like to kill, period. One day when I have my camera, I will tape this for you all, and I hope that my supporters will do the same, thanks. It may be a bit graphic for this site though, poor little birds. You know my sister has a 100 some pound pure breed German Shepard and it thought this raccoon was another friendly dog and that raccoon tore Morgan up so bad he needed to get stitches and staples. And even though these raccoons are very aggressive I still would not want to hit it with my car, see? People, I am very conservative on this matter, why involve the Government, when we can Govern ourselves on this matter. God bless

This is what I wrote to Kevin who did not like this comment, so I wrote it again and displayed it in a different format in hopes that it shows where I am coming from.
This was the original comment question, I think is a valid one, especially for others that can also keep an open mind:
I would like to ask you all a question please. What is or what do you think is the real interest in running over helpless animals such as but not limited to geese in the road? Are you jealous of the geese for some reason? Are you so rushed for time that you could care less about what is in the way from were you have to go? I do not understand this hatred, not at all do I understand this hatred or??? fill in the blank. Are you mad at God? Are you attempting to be a rebel against God? What is the problem? Why are you so angry? There is ways to deal with anger in a better way than running defenseless animals in the road, God bless.
Overall what is a minute or two of a persons time to not kill an animal?
This is my E-mail to Keven.
I said this because the problem is people. I understand that this may offend some, however it will also get them to look at themselves in a way that may encourage change, see? Why do you not think that these are valid questions? Do you see what I am asking and could youplease help me with the proper way of saying and asking what I feel that I need to, if you can of course, LOL. Kevin, I really have hope for people and that they may see the lighter side of my argument, to have some compasion for those less fortunate, that to me is the real issue, don't you? Overall, I guess whatever, thank you for the time and place to be able to attempt to change some things and I totally respect your bottom line. God bless, really. :-)
REMEMBER (SMILE) GOD LOVES YOU. :-)

I would like to ask you all a question please. Is it a problem for people to run geese over on purpose, yes or no?
Do you care to watch this take place, yes or no?
What should be done about this?
At the risk of attacking, however let me ask the other bird lovers who like to feed the geese, do you not feel a little responsible for this. I like cats but if I do not spay or neuter my cat they will multiply, same concept. (Where did all of these geese come from? Is like saying where did all of these cats come from, see?)
It is so very sad to watch others run geese over in the road, makes me wonder what is the depth of what looks like hate to me; Anyway thanks for letting share this with you, God bless.

Thank you Harry Palm and Bob Knob for your concern in this matter, however I do not think that the issue was resolved because it is still going on. I cannot put myself to drive down Tyler for this very reason, I cannot stand to watch this sort of thing take place.
Anyhow Kevin, I would like to say, why do you think the problem is resolved?
Harry Knob, why and what do you think is childish, then please define childish.
I think that what I posted here Kevin is appropriate, I hope that you do too.
I was now thinking that maybe a goose crossing sign in some places may help.
Also I do not think that running bird brained animals over on purpose in the road for all to have to watch and pretend that it is OK is the answer. Kevin that was not an attack and didn't it keep the dialog open for looking for solutions? God bless.
