I agree-I live close by with my 2 year old and we choose to walk or drive to other parks even though Douglas is by far the closest. It scares me. It is unsafe, unsanitary and attracts crime. I think a major rennovation is needed or it should just be removed. Splash park/community garden?

Agreed. I lived right next to the park. I have tried for years to get that fence fixed. All I ever get is the runarround. I posted a complaint on this very site and just like this they closed it the next day and never fixed it. A water park is an excellent idea. We need a new fence, a face lift and some rules. Rules that state that no child under the age of 12 can hang out alone in the park. They need to be supervised by someone 18 and older not doing drugs.
The police department could probably raise the money for several new parks by actually busting and make those people pay a fine.

The park is a mess that's for sure. I feel like all I do when walking through it is picking up other peoples trash – of which someone thinks that the trash receptacles in the park are their source of free garbage pick up.

There's always dog poop and graffiti around, the sand is not fit for any living thing! And that fence, let's just hope everyone has there tetanus shot up-to-date!!!! How many times do we have to try to get this fixed! Apparently years and years and years and years.....

We just moved to this area, and I was soooo disappointed with this park. It's disgusting. I have never seen such a depressing park. I did]n't even want my son to TOUCH any part of the playground. Did the city forget there is a park to be maintained at this location??

So it took over a year for a Parks Admin to respond to this issue, and then he/she responds with "we are aware of and cannot do anything until the weather breaks", which then CLOSES the issue. This recent reply by Parks Admin 1 is not a resolution; it is a statement. Until the issue is resolved - weather permitting or otherwise - please do not close the issue.

Agreed, this issue needs to stay open. The neighborhood will keep bringing it up until something is done!

I concur. Speaking with the OP it is apparent that this has been going on for nearly a decade with no resolution. I myself have been trying to get the city to address for about 2 years and NOTHING has been done. Actually it's worse than that - the sad attempts at addressing the problems with quick fixes have been subpar at best.

PLEASE STOP CLOSING THE ISSUE. It has not been resolved therefore cannot be closed.

Beyond that, the weather is a convenient excuse - none of these issues were addressed during the summer and the have been in existence for longer than that.
