Both the City and Parks Department have Bike Rack replacement/expansion contained within the capital plan. I will respond with approximate time of installation...
Goal is to provide standard upside down U bike racks at all locations however installation of pads has to be accounted for in lot coverage allowance which is very limited in our parks setting (for good reason!). We'll continue to roll out bike racks as capital funding is increased.
I hate to start something but can't help but think that as a tax payer it sure seems that the City spends a lot of money on bike related items. I agree that some of these things are needed and we should have them but where does it stop. I don't have a problem with this request but it did get me to thinking about the money. A lot of people may be saving money by riding bikes but guess who are the ones that have to spend more ?? Just thinking !!!!!!
Bike racks are standard amenities for our parks like trash/recycling. We are being thoughtful about the resources and location of all amenities that get place.
I appreciate the impervious surface constraints placed on our parks. In this particular case, given the vast size of Ethan Allen Park, I'd be surprised if we were near the cap. However if it is a problem here my recommendation would be to repurpose a single existing car parking spot which can easily accommodate enough racks for 10 bikes. Thanks for keeping this on the radar!
