FYI, I did send an email to dpw super today asking to take a closer look at this intersection. It is used by heavy trucks coming and going from the County's facility which adds to the problem. I suggested we partner with them to either keep a more pro-active approach at filling the potholes or repaving it altogether to withstand truck traffic.
Have not heard back from dpw chief but will send another email tonight. Sorry guys, this is a difficult intersection that withstands a lot of heavy traffic (busses, county trucks, etc) and it really needs to be rebuilt to handle the heavy weight of these trucks.
County says that may happen in....perhaps 2014 (really?) so for now temporary patch jobs are the only option.
This should be on the regular circut for the crews since the potholes return within a few weeks or after a rain.
The DPW Superintendent has met w/ a firm to make repairs to this intersection. Depending on the outcome of that meeting and the price quote for repairs, the hope is to apply an infra-red paving technique to correct the driving surface. The city will continue to look for other funding sources to help address the underlying problem for a long term repair. ie. drainage, structural deficiencies, etc.
This intersection is a sad welcome mat for those entering the City of Kingston. Large buses and UC Highway equipment have been cited for the wear and tear. The heavy equipment of the NYS DOT is also at fault. "Shared Services". How about the City of Kingston, the UC Highway Dept and the NYS DOT combining their talents and equipment to make this the best intersection in Kingston?

Thanks Andi,
Everyone please keep an eye on this intersection. When they start working on this, I will close this issue.
