Description

This sinkhole, in the street between 1185 and 1186 Trestle Glen Rd., has been repaired several times since 2006, the last time after it caused a cyclist to crash and dislocate his shoulder. It's now several inches deep and a large crack has appeared across the sidewalk and down the driveway of 1185. Smaller cracks are leading up the sidewalk at 1186. Another cyclist crashed this weekend and had to be taken to Highland hospital for an MRI and a bunch of stitches.

The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request #610919. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

Please fix this sinkhole as soon as possible. People are being injured needlessly.

Please fix this. It's a cyclist hazard and causing issues with cars swerving to miss it since it's so deep

This is on what would be considered a major thoroughfare for bikes. It needs to be fixed soon please.

This should not be closed as no repairs have been made. Three guys from the sewer dept. checked it out today and referred it to the paving dept. I emailed Leroy Franklin, lfranklin@oaklandnet.com:

"Though there's an area that's several inches lower than rest of the 8' x 8' patch, the three guys from the sewer department who came out today said that it wasn't a sinkhole, and referred the problem to your department. Since people are being injured on a regular basis would you mind escalating this and can you let me know when you think it will be taken care of? Thanks for your help Mr. Franklin."

When I asked my neighbors, it turns out that a bunch of cyclists, who I wasn't aware of, have taken spills. Please reach out to Leroy Franklin, either via email or at 510-615-5986 , using the service request number above. Thanks!

What a spectacular (read WTF) moment for auto-responders to this site by our City.

As the neighbor who drove the last victim of this mess to Highland Park on Saturday-- I can tell already we will be more impactful with the direct calls & email that Scott suggested.

The rhetoric in the auto-response needs greater oversight and leadership too. I have more confidence today than a year ago that this too can happen.

Thanks for the original & reopened reports, as well as followup comments. Due to the danger to cyclists, this issue is being submitted to Oakland as a "TOP 10" for immediate attention under an agreement with the Bike East Bay Hazard Elimination program.
