This is very upsetting. What was gained by doing this? NOTHING! It was done just to be mean.

These Little Free Libraries were created with love and respect. They are there to promote literacy and to foster education. This is very upsetting.

Police departments all over the country are saying urban problems need people in theircommunities to band together to volunteer; to promote lawfulness; to get involved. It is a shame that when a neighborhood in Brockton does exactly that, that they get so little support from the Mayor's office. Yet to be seen if the police department will take the vandalism to heart and try to support the people of Brockton who care about their neighborhood.

This is so upsetting. So much thoughtfulness and hard work went into this project. Perhaps a police detail could make a point to pass by this spot? Anything would help to keep this from happening again. So sad!

This just demonstrates that a few bad apples can ruin things for everyone. Our volunteers will add these sites to our random patrols. We suggest others do the same. Only by making it hard for these bad apples can we win our city back.

We cannot let this type of destruction occur again. Lynn Smith is trying to infuse culture and learning into the City and I cannot fathom why someone would destroy something so nice. Fix it NOW. Lynn shouldn't have to fix it with her own money. This is a great addition to the City and we cannot let scumbags and drug addicts ruin everything for the good people of Brockton.

Things are better but we need vigilance to make a difference. Please help.

I am extremely disappointed in this recent act of vandalism. Many truly awesome Brocktonians put their blood sweat and tears into creating, maintaining and lovingly caring for this free library. This goes to show that if the City of Brockton understood the necessity to instill "City Pride" to its residents it would teach Brockton's rich history to all school aged children and anyone willing to learn. This would create a generation who would acquire a sense of ownership and responsibility to maintain our City of Champion's beauty and discourage such violent acts. Man, this really wasn't fair!

This is an upsetting peak to a frustrating week in this area of the city. This week alone, we had 2 cars broken into, feces smeared at the our door step of our church and now this, all in the shadow of city hall. We haven't had these things happen at all in the time we've been in our location and it's been over a year now.
I truly hope something will be done to protect our neighborhood! Those who make a difference will not be shut down by those who wish to dim the light and we need the city's support in this!

Mr.Mayor this is a horrible thing that happened.Lynn Smith puts a lot of her time in this city to improve it...please help to find out who would do such a thing.

Another example of a few making it bad for many. This needs to stop. Our volunteers will add these locations to their random patrols and report any suspicious activity or vandslism to BPD. We suggest orhers do the same. Only by making it hard for the bad guys can we win back our city.

Mayor Carpenter: Please have staff attend to this as soon as possible. This act of vandalism is a sore on the city. If you can have staff repair the site, and perhaps place signs that it is monitored, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This is a quality of life issue that we must work to addressing

this is a disgrace that some one has defaced the little library and the art project i hope the city has put more patrols in the area or check the city hall cameras to apprehend the culprits.

Here is a photo of the damage; note the intention jamming of the top of the trash barrel nearby as a 'collar' on the LFL.

We are hopeful that there is surveillance in this area that will help us idnetify the vandal or vandals. The LFL is located in a route between the parking garage that many city workers use, and the City Hall building itself. Kindly advise, thanks.

This is very disturbing especially as it happened on the same evening that the Mayor, highway department, CFO and city council were saying that the new bright lights have been installed downtown. The lights do no appear to be bright enough to keep vandals away. Although I am not at all surprised since they also said the new lights were installed inside the council chamber yet a visitor who was speaking had difficulty seeing his notes in the chamber with the new lights. The residents and citizens are doing everything that they can but the people in charge of the city need to do better, or as the Patriots saying goes "Do Your Job".
