I'm leaving this open just to raise awareness of this sort of design which I hope is a thing of the past. Who needs a 12 - 15 ft. left turn lane for mile after mile?

This has gotten a lot worse. A bunch of shoulder work was done along this section but the paved shoulder remains dangerously narrow particularly in the east-bound Grand River in front of St. Martha's church.

Five years have gone by and the paved shoulder in this area is about disappeared altogether. Here's hoping it will finally get repaired this construction season.

While this issue is a duplicate it's the first one I created 5 yrs. ago so I'm leaving it open for historic reference' sake. Update from MDOT staff today: "the shoulder along Grand River near Cornell is set to be repaired by the end of September."

Thanks MDOT. About 300 ft. of the shoulder was repaired a week or so ago; approx. 3 ft. of asphalt was added to the east-bound lane to make it safer. Not sure why the repair didn't go further as there's some pretty awful pavement just east of where the repair ended, but it's certainly better than it was.
