Description
A pedestrian island in the middle of Darby Lane (just off of Tollgate Rd) has been hit numerous times by residents' vehicles causing serious damage. This island was installed (I assume) when there was a tot lot on the south side of Darby Lane and is no longer needed. It would better serve the community if it were replaced by a speed control bump or nothing at all. I live right at this location and have observed many accidents. Please help. Per Cheryl Banigan of DPW Engineering and Construction:
The island on Darby Lane was installed at the request of the Homeowners Association, not only for safety for pedestrians crossing to the playground that used to be there, but also to reduce vehicular speeds. Removal of the island would have to be requested from the Homeowners Association. The island is clearly marked, and accident reports indicate that motorists who have hit the island were exceeding the posted speed limit and/or were impaired.
Please have the HOA send a written request to Ms. Banigan for consideration of removal of the island. Should you have any other questions, please contact me a jlwalker@harfordcountymd.gov
