This is a serious situation indeed and one that surprises me that the New Haven Independent or the news stations find no interest in covering. I invite anyone from the press to drive the city from end to end, paying close attention to the way in which the traffic signals are operating AND where they are located. Which engineering brain trust decided placing the traffic signals BEYOND the intersection was a smart idea? If it was such a smart idea, why is it not consistent? There have been several posts about the Fountain Street/Harris Street/Alden Avenue intersection as it relates to red light runners. The light must be well over 50-75 feet BEYOND the intersection- no wonder there is a problem. Another problem is the functioning of the lights- since they do not work reliably motorists tend to speed through lest they have wait for an eternity for the light to change to green again. The most puzzling thing is why the city, and the residents, accept this situation. Right, it's New Haven, we have bigger problems. Very sad.
