08/05/2013 – graffiti on the gate at the bottom of the Manayunk Canal Path ramp up to Shawmont.

In the background, this pic also shows the dangerous graffiti-laden concrete barrier between the cobbles and the new paved ramp. Last week, I saw an older cyclist crash going down the cobbles when he realized there was now a gate across the original cobblestone lane. There are no warning signs and vegetation blocks sight lines to see the gate in time to stop.

And, this photo shows the ruts forming in the canal path, refurbished in early 2012 for $645,000, and some of the weeds that are overgrowing the entire path. Why wasn’t the ramp paved all the way down to the level path to prevent the formation of these ruts?

So, after spending that $645,000 of taxpayer money, the city is sadly neglecting the canal path.

08/06/2013 – more graffiti on stone wall in front of the location of the former water works buildings at Shawmont.

Vegetation has been overgrowing the canal path, but at least it covers the graffiti! Looks like someone has started to clear the vegetation crowding out the path.

10/24/2013 - brand new graffiti on the canal path. Why are new trees and shrubs being planted along the canal path when the graffiti and overgrown vegetation problems go unaddressed?
