This problem is deeply frustrating. I've had a number of conversations with the district managers in Fair Haven, Cedar Hill and East Rock on how to address the problem. It's one of the most frequent complaints I've been getting this summer. I just reached out to the Chief because this problem is not going away and our current approach does not seem to be entirely effective.

A few days ago a pack of about 15 motorcylists were tearing up East Rock Road at maximum speed, many of them riding on their rear wheels. I wonder if they were on their way home from East Rock park. Quite terrifying as they blew right through the stop sign at Edgehill/East Rock

I too saw these kids on motobikes and ATV's last night. They ran their motorized vehicles through the whole picnic area on the top of East Rock several times when there were young children and families there. In addition to the dangerous conditions, their bikes are extremely loud and emit choking fumes. After I left the top of East Rock, I encountered two others riding their vehicles over the white trail down by the river, all the way from Orange Street to the covered bridge at Lake Whitney.

And in regard to the filth, I encountered an (indescribable) used sex object last night on one of the rocks that surround the picnic area. Appalling.

What's the given explanation from the NHPD as to why this park is owned by vandals, drug users,wild gangs ala mad max, the list goes on .? !#%..But on the other hand i recall an incredulous number of complaints from Cedar Hill / East Rock Park / Orange St. area/ Prospect Hill and back down to Mechanic Street.Crimes too numerous to write down here, lackadaisal response or actually ; No response at all ..I went to Community Management Meetings where the cop demands to be made a hero and awarded entitlements for an imaginary arrest or presence..It was always one paid city worker raising his or her arm like a champ..They should have given the Emporer some new clothes, that only the cop can see, everyone else just pretend you all see the shiny armour

..Someone mentioned that there's not enough crime in this ward to be awarded any OT . That they'll swoop around after working the bar and saloon crowd in downtown New Haven.So they storm about at 7 am long after the criminals are gone,gone home to count their loot i suppose, leaving peoples little dogs at risk..The typical cop in NH deals with inebriated rowdy kids who are letting out some steam etc...They treat everyone else the same , they are probably still "One of the patrons" they fear answering calls in the community because it will expose them .They just don't know how to deal with anything but a hapless sauced SCSU and Yale student - Even then we hear about so much

On Sunday, 8/12/12, at approximately 3:20 p.m., six motorbikes participated in a high-speed descent on the closed road from English Drive. Fortunately, pedestrian and cycling traffic was minimal at that time. But the potential for a catastrophic accident was enormous. Epic fail for NHPD and city of New Haven in protecting people who just want to enjoy a quiet walk or ride.
