We need a pedestrian crosswalk at Buena Vista @ Ohlone, please!
The Public Works Department has reviewed your request for a marked crosswalk at Buena Vista Avenue and Ohlone Street. All pedestrian improvements, ranging from two white lines, to flashing lights, to an actual traffic signal require various quantitative and qualitative criteria to be met. One of the main criteria is typically the amount of pedestrian crossings, which is represented by the significance of the improvement. This allows approaching motorists to anticipate pedestrians and react accordingly.
The amount of pedestrian crossings required for a marked crosswalk per peak hour is 20. However, the highest amount of crossings during any peak hour was 3. Therefore, we do not recommend installing a marked crosswalk at this location.
Nevertheless, we understand that you are having difficulty crossing the street, most likely due to motorists not yielding to you. The proper way to address this is with Police enforcement. I have reassigned this case to them so that they may address your concern. Thank you.
