Description

Original complaint: "On 52nd Avenue South there are numerous landscaping vehicles including trucks with trailers parked on the side of the very narrow road. Can we put no parking signs up or another effort to ensure folks aren't storing their trucks there in a regular basis?"

Response from Neighborhood Transportation, posted 11/23/2015: "Transportation Department staff has issued a work order to Traffic Ops to post "No Tree Line Parking" restrictions. This in itself will move vehicles from illegally parking / storing off the roadway, but does not address any on-street parking that may be caused as vehicles relocate. Once posted we will request Police enforcement of any illegal tree line parking and illegal parking of any commercial vehicles in a residential area. In the future, residents will have to agree if any additional "on-street" parking restrictions are required." This issue continues to be under review.

Law enforcement issues (illegal street parking or other illegal activities, abandoned/inoperative vehicles in the street, noise ordinance violations, etc.) need to be reported directly to the St. Petersburg Police Department by calling 727-893-7780 (for non-emergencies) or 911 (for emergencies.)

This will be interesting especially since one of the vehicles routinely parked there is a St Pete Police vehicle!

The cars are gone but there is still a yard service trailer parked there and the signs the city said (Jan 26) they would post saying no parking have yet to appear.

Update from Neighborhood Transportation: 'no parking' signs were installed on the south side of 52nd Ave S, however they were subsequently removed after discussions with neighborhood leaders who have agreed to speak to adjacent residents about moving the trailers and other vehicles off that 'maintenance easement' to other parking locations. Questions about this may be directed to our office at 893-7843. Thank you for your inquiry.

On Friday a small trailer owned by the resident at 2873 was parked on the ROW, and further east a van with a lawn trailer owned by the resident at 2845 were all parked on the easement, and were there all weekend well into Monday morning. Apparently these homeowners did not 'get the memo' from the leaders who agreed to speak to them about these vehicles. Request the issue remain open pending further review of the situation and that the city not abandon the idea of putting NO PARKING signs on this strip.

Is there an update on this? The routine parking of lawn trucks is a serious hazard. You can't see what's coming on the other side because of the blocked views.

I have attempted to call that number several times. First time the voicemail says they are out of the office (Friday afternoon). Other 2 times (this AM) it goes to a voicemail. Because I prefer to remain anonymous there does not seem to be a way to receive a response to this issue. Disheartening!

This morning there was a blue sedan parked on that ROW and the usual lawn trailer. How much longer is this going to drag on?

This issue is much better now that the lawn trucks are parked with the flow of traffic. You can actually see going down that road. The storing of the commercial lawn trucks daily/nightly continues, but at least the safety risk is gone.

Last week the lawn trucks and trailers were parked on the easement on week days, so this isn't just a weekend "out of use" event. If we are going to allow this sort of parking, perhaps the best solution is to stop pretending this is a landscaped ROW and turn it into a parking lot - pull up the trees and the grass, put down gravel and invite people on 52nd Ave S to have their own private parking lot. Either that or put up NO PARKING signs and write some tickets!

There seems to be some conflict of interest or city connection that is interfering with action being taken on this issue. The illegal parking and landscaping trucks have been going on for years. Even complaints here have not resulted in a change. When a accident happens it'll be sad because it was preventable. Those trucks are safety hazards.
