Elevator at Golden Gate Branch of the Oakland Public Library is out of order. The delay in getting it fixed means that people with disabilities and moms with strollers have great difficulty getting into the library.

The elevator is again not working and the situation is egregious! We need a totally new elevator, I think! If they have such trouble finding parts or diagnosing the problem, it is time to invest in the infrastructure!
The aides who deliver books to the library several times a week have to carry sometimes 10-12 30-lb crates of books up the stairs, and often a similar number of outgoing books down the stairs. The staff, including librarians, library assistants, etc., have to help to get it done. The staff can't transport books up and down levels, and the disabled patrons who come in for materials or services, or to get their taxes done (free AARP sponsored tax service) have great difficulty. Last week, I thought a patron was going to have a heart attack, right there on the stairs! You could hear him gasping all through the library.
