Description

Vehicles are running the red lights at Webster and Atlantic. There is also a problem with motorists failing to yield to pedestrians, mostly when making right turns.

1. Some of the problem has to do with the long signal cycle. Motorists are desperate to get through the intersection without having to wait. On left turns, traffic can back up and motorists continue to turn left long after the red. Sometimes 3-4 vehicles turn on the red. With even more traffic expected, this will likely get worse.

2. Motorists are making a right on red without stopping. This poses a danger to the many pedestrians at this intersection.

3. The crosswalks are fading and were minimal to start. Could high visibility crosswalks be installed? This is the busiest pedestrian intersection in Alameda.

Traffic and associated problems at this intersection will only increase with development.
