The Tree is private and should be addressed by the property owner, this was sent to the cities Compliance Officer.

I know it is a tree on private land, but 2/3 of it overhangs sidewalks on the corner of Sacramento & Carver with high pedestrian traffic. Heavy, thick branches up to 5-8 feet long regularly fall to the sidewalk or street in stiff wind. It is easy to see now, June 16, how many huge branches are rotten and waiting to fall because they have not leafed out. THIS IS AN URGENT PUBLIC HEALTH MATTER -- it is a hazard to the public on the public land under the tree. The compliance officer has told me that the absentee owner is incommunicado. What will it take for the city - Cambridge - to treat this as the public health threat this tree is? Please don't wait for an unwitting passerby to be maimed or killed.

Another storm, another dangerous branch fall. Last Friday's brief thunderstorm (July 1) brought down the large dead branch in the picture. (Note the yellow one-foot ruler in the picture.) Hefting one end leads me to estimate its weight at 80 pounds. Luckily, this one fell in the yard of the tree owner's house. But note that at least 50% of the tree overhangs public streets and sidewalks.

The continued stonewalling of this property owner can't be the final answer to this significant public safety threat.
