Description

The potholes were filled in by CalTrans but they came right back. I just drove through there yesterday and slowed down to 20 MPH to avoid another accident. There is a serious recurring problem that is spread out all under the overpass in both directions. There are about 8 potholes of different sizes. This needs a permanent solution or at least post a sign that says ''rough road'' and a 20 MPH recommended speed.

The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request #634120. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

This pothole is very large and is on a freeway ramp with a speed limit of 40 mph which is a dangerous speed for hitting a hole this size. The lane should be closed until this hole is fixed.

You should file a claim. If every person who has a flat tire and car damage filed a claim, maybe just maybe the city will do something.

You're not the first one to report this pothole. It's an accident waiting to happen. I just hope no one gets hurt due to the city's negligence.

I understand the city finances may not allow for repairing all potholes, but as this post mentions, this one is a VERY large pothole that has caused damage to numerous vehicles! This pothole will damage a vehicle and any driver that notices it will most likely swerve to avoid the damage, creating a public hazard, especially given that said driver will have to swerve into oncoming traffic to safely avoid the pothole. This is beyond dangerous.

If I lived in that neighborhood I would find something to fill in that hole myself! This pothole should not exist for another minute. It destroyed my tire, bent my wheel, and removed both of my front wheel covers. I was on my way to go on vacation and stopped in Oakland to pick up someone else who was traveling with me. My car was not drivable after hitting this pothole. We had to rent a car to make our trip. This one incident with this pothole is going to cost me about $500 plus massive inconvenience plus painful body aches for several days. That lane should be closed until this pothole is fixed.

I am planning to file a claim. After I have made all of my repairs I will be submitting my bills to the city for reimbursement. And I was injured but I was able to recover within a few days. I had neck and back pain for four days but that is resolved. I don't know how to submit a claim so any advise on how to do that is appreciated.

Someone contact Mayor Libby Schaaf or lets all ask her to drive her nice Mercedes or BMW or whatever car she drives on a daily basis over this beautiful Pothole that the city refuses to fix and lets see if things suddenly get fixed! It's ridiculous Mayor Libby Schaaf, you have the resources and the committee at City Hall to make a proposal for the Oakland Raiders football team to stay in Oakland but you say you don't have the funds to fix potholes in our streets? Yeah right stop lying to the public and fix Oaklands infrastructure and roads that we all use.

My wheels have been torn up by this pothole more than the rest of our city's backlog. This one should sincerely be prioritized; it's dangerous.

I've been very concerned about this disaster for months, warning friends who are coming to my place to SLOW DOWN for this series of potholes, not just one!
Can't imagine how many cars, tires, alignment, etc. have been destroyed by this mess in BOTH directions. I slow way down, put my hazard lights on, and honk my horn every time I get off at that exit to warn people behind me that:
1) I am coming to almost completely stop, & 2) They need to be careful too.
AND it's even worse mess when it's been raining and they fill with muddy water which gets splashed all over cars driving in both directions!
The city MUST prioritize this and not just treat this as any other little potholes.

As the saying goes "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". Literally you have to be active in your pursuit with the city to get this issue fixed. We have pot holes and exposed railroad spurs on Wood St at 26th St. several bicycle, motorcycle accidents and 2-4 flat tires every single day, including an OPD cruiser. The businesses on this block actively participate in the neighborhood meetings each month and we tell the accident victims to contact the city attorney and file a complaint and list of damages. It's been 3 years and Oakland Road Maintenance finally came yesterday and partially covered some of the pot holes. It's a band aid for now, they only filled the holes halfway . . . Really!

I have submitted a report at the CalTrans website. Thank you for passing on that information.
Please also advise me on how to receive reimbursement of my damages. Expenses so far: car rental $130, refurbished wheel $90, tire under warranty $20, wheel alignment $90, wheel covers $20. All plus tax. Hopefully there will be no further repairs. I am still waiting for the wheel to arrive.
Attached is a photo of my damaged steel wheel to verify the extreme danger of this pothole.

A sign should be posted that says "CAUTION - ROUGH ROAD" and a 20MPH speed limit. I slow down to that speed every time I drive through there and I am as afraid of someone hitting me as I am of the potholes.
