Description
Yesterday afternoon, there was a very bad wreck in front of the Holiday Foods. Cars flying up the center lane to get to the left turn lane for Bob Wallace is GETTING OUT OF CONTROL. Just today, I saw 5 CARS doing this. One as far south as Morgan Street....THAT'S A 1/2 MILE that a car was speed past stopped traffic in the travel lanes down the CENTER TURN LANE... What if somebody going south was going to try to turn left onto one of the neighborhood streets.. What if somebody was pulling out of the neighborhood street into that center lane to merge to travel south? SOMEBODY IS GOING TO DIE if they haven't already.
***DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE.***
Adjust the median closer to Bob Wallace; increase police to prevent cars from flying down that lane..

Finally someone else agrees with me on this... I reported this issue months ago and the city did nothing. See post here: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/1947096-just-days-away-from-deadly-wreck
This does need to be corrected. Does anyone know the injuries of the wreck yesterday? I saw it coming home and it was bad.

The City of Huntsville has reviewed your service request, however Jordan Lane/ Patton Road is not under our purview. This road is owned and maintained by the Alabama Department of Transportation. We will be glad to include your item in our regular maintenance request report to ALDOT, however, you may wish to contact ALDOT directly at 256-837-0111.
Thank you,
Your Huntsville Connect Customer Service Team

How much work & money would it take to extend the concrete median? (as seen in attachment)

This road is an extension of HWY 53 which is a state maintained road just like the Parkway, I565, University Drive, Martin Luther King & Research Blvd to name a few. You will have to contact ALDOT for an estimate on the cost to do road construction on this particular road. Unfortunately, we do not have the information for a state maintained road.
Sincerely,

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_State_Route_53, https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/national_highway_system/nhs_maps/alabama/huntsville_al.pdf, and the signage on the Parkway at Governors and at Governors/565/Jordan (thank you Google Street View), in Huntsville, AL-53 comes up South Mem Pkwy, turns left on Governors Dr, turns right on Jordan Ln, and runs out towards Ardmore.
Most of Jordan Ln is AL-53, but NONE of Patton Rd is AL-53!
Huntsville City, please verify your earlier comments on this issue, as it seems Patton Rd from Drake to Bob Wallace IS, in fact, under your purview.
Thank you.

I will check on the status of Patton Road. The list I have for State roads list HWY 53, Jordan Lane & Patton Road. I will respond back momentarily.

I contacted ALDOT:
Dear sir,
Thank you for your inquiry. It appears no portion of Patton Road falls under ALDOT’s jurisdiction. State ROW along Jordan Lane ends at Governor’s Drive. I believe the initial direction of this concern toward city officials was correct.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

I do apologize for the incorrect information and I have updated the information I have on file to not include Patton road. I did speak with the city Engineer this morning as well as the Director of Public Works about the intersection. I printed out a big version of the original screen shot for them to look at. A study of the area will be done to see how this issue can be addressed. Unfortunately, they can not extend the concrete median out because traffic coming from Holiday Foods will not be able to turn Southbound on Patton Road also this stops the flow of traffic towards that business and other businesses that are in that area. Multiple departments will be involved in the evaluation of this area to see what type of actions are appropriate.

This is still a major issue. Every day I see a car nearly get hit head-on by others flying down the "suicide" lane.
