Update from Sanitation Department: this location was reported under a different address and an incorrect category last week, however a Sanitation investigator was able to locate the dumped items. Given the fact that much of the dumped pile in the ROW was building materials (approx 3 cubic yards), a violation letter has been sent to the property owner advising them of the cost to have the items removed.

Yes, I agree with this poster. This has been reported before and no action seems to have been taken. We live on the next block and this looks so trashy for our neighborhood. It looks like a scene from a third world country. This trash has been sitting out there for WEEKS! City of St. Pete, please act!!

GOOD! Fine the property owner! These people need to be held accountable for the damage they cause to our neighborhood. They don't care because many of them don't live here, but HELLO! There are actual year-round resident's of this neighborhood who care about how our properties are viewed by potential buyers or just by visitors to our area!!

Why don't you just have Sanitation remove the junk and then send a strongly worded invoice which mentions a lein against his property for the amount owed to the City for the clean up? That way we won't have to look at the junk while he ponders the cost of removal.

Sanitation should pick up mattresses and other free trash! NOW1

Bill: you sound like a landlord. I hate to sound mean, but if you are a landlord, please have some consideration for the actual HOME OWNERS who actually live here. Pay your own way or get the F out! We don't want, nor do we need you here!!

You do sound mean. You mis-interpreted my comment, and were unkind, needlessly.
I am a tenant, but appreciate my neighborhood, and am always calling City Sanitation number 727-893-7398 to pick up trash when I see it in alleys and on streets. My comment stemmed from frustration with the City going out and looking, and giving a bill to the property owner to pick up the stuff, instead of dealing with the blight. Our neighborhood needs a pro-active City which will keep the streets clean.

Then I'm sorry, but what the city really needs is for the landlords to take full responsibility for their properties. Instead of hiring property management companies to "take care" of everything (which, NEWSFLASH, many of them could not care less) make it your business to keep your rental properties up to par. There is nothing worse for us homeowners who live here year round and who may quite possibly be trying to sell their property, than to have an irresponsible landlord who lives in Connecticut or Canada that only care about receiving their rent checks each month and nothing else. I got news for you. Those property management companies only care about one thing - receiving their cut of your rent money.

City - So "a violation letter has been sent" which explains to the property owner the cost of removing the junk. Is it still there. If uou mailed it today he should have it by Monday. Maybe read it Tuesday. What happens if he decides not to respond? Is there a 30/60/90 day plan? Please go get the junk and make sure he pays. Isn't there a litter law on the books? Why don't you arrest him?

Wow. Talk about government at its worst. I actyallt got a chuckle about the City's response that the wrong address and "incorrect category" was used a few weeks ago, but the worker was able to locate the pile. It's kind of hard to miss.
