The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request #635870. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

Not a pothole, but a square "hole" cut out of the pavement. By whom? A contractor? A utility company? The responsible party should get this fixed A.S.A.P.
I've seen several close calls since my street, E27th feeds right into it. Every time anyone comes out to do repairs they only last maybe a year then it's right back to 'square' one. Whatever is being used is of a very poor quality. Doesn't the city realize it cost twice as much to have them come out time after time to do the same repairs over and over again! Our street is crumbling and it's so narrow we can hardly get around the newest potholes. No one out there hears or cares!!!!! Born, raised in this 'wonderful' city for 68 years. It's wearing me out!!!! NO, it's worn me out!!
This particular hole is truly a bigger problem than many others. It's both big AND deep - and wide as well. Folks who can see it during daytime often swerve to avoid it, and we currently have an influx of bicycle riders on Coolidge who this puts in danger.
At night - especially in the rain - it's almost impossible to see. I ran into it myself for this reason last week, even though I know full-well it's there. I couldn't see it even though I was looking for it. I was driving a large, heavy-duty passenger van at the time - it got knocked right out of alignment, right then.
Please, Public Works folks - I fully understand this is the result of a contractor, and the idea might be to demand that they come out and fix it. However, they still haven't done that after several weeks, and in the meantime our vehicles are getting damaged. Can we do something else - have City crews come out and fix it, and then bill the contractor? Anything? Or could you provide us with the name of the contractor (which should be public information anyway), so that we can do some work on them?
Dear DPW! You have records of all repair work done under city streets! Please hold the contractor that opened the street here responsible and GET THIS DANGEROUS DAMAGE TO OUR STREET FIXED! :-o

EME, you are probably correct in your assessment. Regardless, the hole needs to be fixed right away it is creating hazardous traffic conditions.
