Parking enforcement and a curb extension are needed here before a mom pushing a stroller is killed by vehicles & trucks flying around the corner.
What kind of traffic engineer designed this disaster?

i agree, and would like to take this a step further:
both the crown and george street intersections used to have automatic pedestrian signals built into the cycle.
they both have been removed. you now HAVE to press the button if you want to cross.
this is incredibly backward. the number of pedestrians is about to spike, and we make it LESS SAFE, harder, less convenient to cross a high volume/ high speed road?
i am beyond furious.

It's good to hear that ticketing is happening - there should be an officer by here at least once every hour, from 7AM to 2AM in order to make sure that the rules are enforced. This is critical to improving safety.
The site across the street, in front of the nightclub, is also a location where vehicles are frequently parked illegally particularly between 9PM and 3AM on weekend evenings.
Given that tickets can not be issued on a 24/7 basis, I think that this issue should remain open until a permanent solution (e.g., the curb extension that was suggested here) is in place. For someone to be run over trying to cross the street, all it takes is for someone to park here and obstruct visibility for a few seconds. This is a very busy area of pedestrian activity.
The attached image shows a typical curb extension in London, which prevents vehicles from parking at the corner.
Until a permanent extension can be added, TTP should place orange barrels and cones at the location to help ensure safety.

I don't see any complaints that YALE and their STUDENTS are parking where they want with no regards to traffic laws or safety- anyone drive down Elm Street since Friday ??
It's the DeStefano administration that has created this mess-lets try to fix it by removing the man in charge and maybe these things won't happen in the first place.
BTW- wait until Rt 34 is closed down- you think Gateway parking is a problem- this is only the beginning.

@Department of Transportation, Traffic and Parking :
could you address why the pedestrian phase was removed from both these intersections?!
