sidewalk chalk messing up my mojo. trying to ride bike onto sidewalk and saw this. I found it discouraging.
Related to riding bikes on Sidewalks:
Three weeks ago I saw a friend lecturing a bike rider regarding sidewalk riding. I chatted with him after as he was a bit shaken and explained that the police do give tickets for it. Two weeks ago the same guy rode up to me and told me that he asked a police officer and that I had been misinformed. Apparently the NHPD are not enforcing this policy anymore as it was only a tactic to be able to search potential criminals. All of word of mouth but sounds pretty in-line with my understanding.
All that said, I wish more people would bike in the street.
Ben........the New Haven cops must be misinformed then, because it is ILLEGAL to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk.
Common sense, and illegal, period, amen.
Maybe the cops simply don't care about enforcement, but it's dangerous for pedestrians.
I would agree that defacing the sidewalk with chalk is not a major offense, but it is likely not legal, either. That is public property.
