Barking dogs are a nuisance. There is an ordinance about that. Call the cops.

The dogs aren't the nuisance...dogs do what dogs do...it is the neighbor who owns the dog that is the nuisance. The law says that noise is okay after 7 a.m. and up until 11 p.m., but if it is continual barking for long periods of time, call the police OR if it is during the time that Hamstat Call Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., call and complain and they will send an Animal Control Officer out to make sure the dog is all right and will serve a summons.

BEFORE you use the police or animal control...HAVE YOU spoken directly...nicely...to the neighbor to let them know it is a problem? If a couple of you walk over and talk to the neighbor, you may resolve the issue without having to go any further. The condition of the property has nothing to do with the dog. Again, it is the owner who is creating the problem...talk sometimes works. Especially if they know more than one neighbor is disturbed.

We have the same issue in another section of Yardville. After nearly 3 years I finally called the cops when I was home sick one day with the flu. The came out, read them the riot act and 5 minutes later the dogs (there are 3 of them) were barking again. The barking goes on for hours and hours straight. I called the cops again and the second time they knocked on my door. They told me they will not be returning to the dog owners since they have already been there. They also said the dogs are allowed to bark from 6am until 10pm. I don't know about you but I get up at 4:30 every morning and that barking until 10 is a huge nuisance. Plus there is an ordinance in Hamilton that states that excessive barking is not allowed. Excessive barking is considered longer than 5 minutes. So now my only option is to talk to the neighbors (which my other neighbor already has done and they choose never to listen) or I have to file an official complaint and take them to court. You would think if the police asked you nicely to quiet down the dogs that would be enough.
