Description
I've lived here now 2 years and the speeding traffic cutting from 4th to 83rd Ave N through Riverside Dr N and vice versa has increased exponentially. I notice tons of walkers, bikers and strollers coming down the road daily so speeding cars are a HUGE problem. Why is there not some sort of speed humps or traffic calmin devices on this street to prevent the excess speed? Also, it is known issue that speeding on 83rd Ave N/NE is reoccurring problem. With the new park that has been constructed measures need to be taken to prevent speeding and excess traffice from Gandy and 4th from even entering this area. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

Sorry - I did not see the 04/05/16 post. Not sure why.
I can schedule additional studies along the corridor, but unless I can record 24-hour vehicle operating speeds greater than 35 MPH I can't install speed humps.
I will post the results and recommendations when completed.

Also, I don't think the posted speed limit in this neighborhood should be 35 MPH. There is not even a center lane marker or accessible sidewalks down Riverside Dr N. I'm sure this wasn't an issue years ago, but with construction and increased population it really needs to be rethought. Thanks for your time.

Additional studies were completed yesterday on 85th Avenue N as well as on Riverside Drive and again the average operating speeds were between 29 and 32 MPH in the posted 25 MPH speed zone.
Yes - we did record as many as 15 drivers on 85th Avenue N exceeded the speed limit by 10 MPH or greater, however this alone does not qualify for speed humps. If this were allowed we would be building speed humps on every block of every residential roadway and that is specifically not the purpose for this type of speed control feature. Vehicle volumes were also much lower than all previous counts by half.
Our experience throughout the city has been that there are rarely serious events in residential neighborhoods and for the most part our program of working with the police where we can identify areas of concern and installation of speed humps in cooperation with the Neighborhood Associations where needed has proven successful.
The Police will continue to monitor the area as they do on a regular bases, even if you don't see them, and provide enforcement of the speed limits.
