"Resident Only" signs have been posted on Lawrence Rd to help alleviate some of the traffic that would eventually merge at the Winthrop Street Rotary, particularly for the 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM rush hours. There is a very large volume of traffic going into the Winthrop St. rotary. Traffic is increased from our nearby schools as well. A suggestion would be to contact the Traffic Commission at 781-391-6409. They were instrumental in placing "Resident Only signs" in the area to help alleviate the backlog.

It's not about the amount of traffic, it's about the lack of signage or striping that has led to the drivers not yielding to traffic already in the rotary.

I will pass this along to the Traffic Commission tomorrow. Yield signs could help, For example the top of Elm St has yield signs at the rotary. Seems to work, however there is a lot less traffic.

I'm very sorry to hear that NIMBY "Residents Only" signs are seen as a solution to this problem. These proliferating uncivic signs only displace the problem to someone else's street, masking the problem, instead of dealing with it, the squeakiest wheel getting the most oil.

As mentioned in the original report, " There's ... so much pavement there that it's hard to see where you should wait to enter the rotary, or where you should drive around the rotary." It is really a free-for-all, with people not knowing who actually has right of way, trying to keep you eye on several vehicles at once. Signage, pavement markings (hopefully visible at night and in the rain/snow), and road architecture should be able to prevent this level of uncertainty and chaos. Please don't compound the problem with "Residents Only" signs.

I realize that everyone has a different idea as to how to correct the problem. That is what makes this interesting. I believe the resident signs were placed where they are because the roads are major shortcuts for vehicles cutting thru the area. I don't think they were placed there with the intention of compounding the problem. I am passing along all of these suggestions and will continue to do so. Understand that there is a process in place to bring attention to this. I am going to tap into that process and will keep you updated.

Seconded for more signage reminding Winthrop Circle inlets to yield to traffic in the rotary, with clear white lines and crosswalks painted on the road at each yield sign. Thank you, Captain Clemente.

Spoke to Chief Sacco tonight. This will be added to the agenda at the next Traffic Commission Meeting. It is moving in the right direction. I will be taking all of this to the meeting.

There needs one added for Lincoln Rd. Cars cut through and half the time fly through at high speeds.

We will be taking some more positive steps with this rotary. These issues have been placed on the next agenda of the Traffic Commission Meeting on April 12th

This was fixed with new orange "Traffic Circle" signs. Probably didn't get closed because it was a duplicate (of many) that were opened at the Winthrop Rotary

The new signs helped, but have not made the rotary as safe as it should be (and several recent accidents prove that). Drivers are still confused about when they have entered the rotary and therefore have right of way vs when they should yield to other drivers, since there are acres of unstriped pavement. I would not call this "fixed".
