Thanks for putting me in the same league as you something I am not worthy of but It is not really that hard with computers to find information. If they are posting here they either have one or have access. Also I hope people realize that some city departments either seldom monitor this site if it all. When was the last time LCI responded to a post?
There has been gas leaks and traffic lights not working reported on this site. In situations like those I will post phone it in then post and mention it was called in. With posts that should have been called in I will call them in myself which can be difficult because I do not have all the facts.
People you can always call the police at 203 946-6316 and in emergencies 911.
For communication purposes I will take the phone over the computer.
We know how to search for information, and we often take the trouble to do it. Yes, obviously everyone on this site has access to some kind of internet. But, as for the rest.. don't take it for granted. I often give people a referral to the Mayor's office. The buck stops there, and a lot of these problems are things she should know about.
Thank you for caring about the whole community, your 'global consciousness'.. many people are not posting out of concern for the community but only an immediate personal request and they don't think beyond that. You and I often take up some of the slack.. and thanks for that.. That's the way it is.

Something must to said or nothing is ever going to change. I think many believe the city runs this site and they are monitoring it 24/7. Let me be clear this is not run by the city and some departments hardly ever monitor this site if at all. Case in point if WWB called the police when he first noticed the lights out they would pointed him in the right direction and 3 weeks would have not gone by with nothing happening.
Something effective must be said and done if anything is ever going to change. As you point out, saying something to the wrong people isn't going to help, and it's best to have a group of people saying it and not just one person. I am an activist, and, from my experience, I've noted a general lack of response by the average worker and administrator unless they are pressured in the right ways to actually do their jobs completely. The general philosophy is to punch in late, punch out early and do as little as possible for the most profit.
So we are actually in agreement.
What happened when she called the police was one of the things that typically happens, and that is that we get the 'it's not my job' response. And then what happened with the DOT is typical of what happens when we call a State Dept... they don't answer at all. The ball is not rolling, but stuck in the mud.
It is an important safety issue, so I hope the person doesn't just give up, as the workers and administrators hope..
So the issue died "there"... The lights are still out (last I counted there were 10), it's pitch dark at night. The 90 degree turn on the north bound exit ramp is particularly troubling. They will probably do something if there is a major accident there one night...
