Since the neighborly thing is to ask people politely to not do a thing, I did this a while back. The man who owned the house (or lived in it) got very angry. He claimed a right to park there because there wasn't enough driveway space for all the cars that need to park there. He suggested that he would assault anyone who messed with his car.

Since the people living in the house will not listen to neighbors, I would request that the police tell the people to knock it off.

Of course, police officers live there or are related to people who live there... So.....

SeeClickFix brings transparency to these issues and their remedy process, and I'm grateful for that. We've also learned the importance of calling these in to MPD non-emergency dispatch at (781) 391-6404. I don't drive by often, but I haven't seen vehicles there recently. Has anyone?

I see them every few days still. I thought the mpd should speak to the homeowners. Me speaking to them did not work

i drive twice every day and would say on average there is either a truck or a police car parked there 2 or 3 times a week. When you think about it these lazy drivers actually let some law-abiding citizen get a parking spot on the side street !

If you call it in to the police they simply call the person who parks there so they move before the police come
It is a problem that occurs with substantial regularity throughout the city AND with the privatized parking enforcement.
One of the neighbors on my street specially boasted how they has befriended the "enforcer" so when people in neighborhood call on his tenants (illegal) non permitted vehicle, the parking enforcer calls him to let him know someone's on way to ticket the car.
You have seen at least six specific examples of this practice on seeclickfix which I would argue represent perhaps only a tiny fraction of to the extent this issue presents itself

Just hire more police to enforce. If they enforce it will generate tickets. Tickets generate money. Which in turn pays for the added police. How much does the traffic company get paid? Is it contracted as is or based on the amount of tickets they produce?(I would doubt that)

So did calling 781-391-6404 get the car moved? Once that proves to work, then there is the question on ensuring that calls become unnecessary and the practice stops always and everywhere.

All sidewalk parking should end and is probably an ADA violation to permit it, but each offender will feel the very human feeling of having something taken that was theirs.

I just read in a scholarly article opposed to sidewalk parking that Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote in 1897 that he had some sympathy for wrongful squatters:

"A thing which you have enjoyed and used as your own for a long time, whether property or an opinion, takes root in your being and cannot be torn away without your resenting the act and trying to defend yourself, however you came by it."

Is it time for a coordinated civil disobedience of parking the whole length of the street, and then protesting the tickets as unequal enforcement?

As long as the practice is accepted on Elm St (police say it is accepted as a "long standing" thing) people elsewhere are going to think themselves entitled to do it in front of their house and see if they can cut themselves in as they have along Winthrop St. Roll you own is not a good way to make laws. I am afraid it's going to take Council action and an ADA lawsuit to settle. But an immediate end to sidewalk parking on Winthrop would be a good place to start

I suspect SCF rejections didn't like the emphasis on people's names and/or home addresses in the rejected posts above. That's a pretty standard online and social media convention: no ad hominem. SeeClickFix wants to make it easy to fix physical problems, not naming-and-shaming. If there are problems with a particular police officer, citizens are supposed to call Internal Affairs (http://medfordpolice.com/divisions/internal-affairs/ ), or if you trust the system more than that, Internal Affairs suggests you contact the unit commander (in this case for Traffic http://medfordpolice.com/divisions/traffic/ )

you can suspect whatever youd like, in latin or not, but pictures of cars parking illegally on a sidewalk especially by a police officer ( or his cruiser) should not be removed or blocked.They are obviously being blocked by the same officials who wont do anything to fix it>

Since the city hasn't responded, here's your answer. The reason this is being ignored is because a medford police officer lives at this address. Funny enough, he is part of the traffic division responsible for enforcing this public safety issue and also the brother of a recently "retired" officer whose behavior you've heard about on the news. Captain Clemente never had any intention of actually responding to this, that's why he simply said to call dispatch. They probably had a good laugh over this and do any time someone tries to call the police on the police. This is what happens when they are only accountable to themselves.

You know, I can live with this. The police have a rotten job, and an unhealthy one, and I'm not talking about the potential danger. The hours they keep and their lack of physical exercise do not lead to long lives. Medford's force is like any other; some very good officers and a few real losers. At least they are not firing 17 bullets into an unarmed man or watching kids drown when they could have saved them.

I disagree, if you tolerate any corruption–no matter how small and insignificant–that can lead to worse corruption down the line. You give an inch and someone will take a mile. The police are bound by the same rules as all of us and they don't get a pass on anything regardless of how difficult their jobs can be. They have their jobs and we, as private citizens, have the job of keeping the police honest.

Call dispatch directly at (781) 391-6404. We the people are the city. We're a lot closer to omniscient and omnipotent than our city government We have far more staff, far more eyes, and far more cameras . It is reasonable to assume that we the people are going to spot trouble (or backsliding, in this case) long before the City does. So clue them in.

Saw it there again at 5am. Called to get a "we will look into" response that felt lack lustered. Just in tone it seems the city is getting annoyed and doesn't seem to care anymore.

Could anyone post any kind of pattern with time of day or specific vehicles of this recurring violation?
It may help in thwarting their actions by giving a heads up of when specifically vehicle most likely to be parked there.

5/31, Tuesday 7:26 AM. I saw a Silver Dakota pickup in the same location and a uniformed police officer enter the truck. I can't say if it was a Medford Police Officer or if it's the same truck as the picture, as I don't know what a Dakota looks like from the rear. As far as pattern, I have seen the vehicle there on work days between 7:10 AM and 7:30 AM as I pass by. Sorry. No photo.

Although photos are being "blocked by rejections," in Desktop and mobile app view, the blocked photos are appearing in mobile web view. A little issue with not defining content classes in the CSS. For example the pwiggy537 photos of a patrol car parked there are visible in mobile view, but otherwise not visible in desktop and app.
