Branciforte Street un-driveable ".. for over 25 years.."

For 24 years, I bicycled Branciforte St, negotiated the ever widening and deepening pot holes. This year, a section of roadbed literally collapsed under me, broke my bike, and came close to breaking my back.

A friend suggested SEECLICKFIX, said "It gets quick results", so I tried it. Only result I've seen so far was when a city employee called me a "troll" and accused me of misusing SEECLICKFIX. Well, so-called Civil Servants, if you want to see me disappear from this site, you can start by fixing Branciforte Street -- and not just outside my house, but the entire six blocks of it from Tennessee to Carolina.

Bike Skills 101 should not require a prerequisite on: "Avoiding Cars When they Swerve to Avoid the Potholes".

I am guessing this is a duplicate SCF complaint because this issue is so in bad need of repair. This situation should be corrected and fixed as soon as possible. This street is almost impassable by vehicle or on foot. What is frustrating about this street condition is the city is resurfacing other streets that are still in decent condition, but forgetting about this roadway.

Is that the best you can do? What does it take for the city to take action? Accidents, deaths?

This is a serious issue affecting many of the residents, myself included. How can roads are in good condition have priority over Branciforte St? It's not just embarrassing and disastrous, it is dangerous!

It is my hope, that this matter gets the real attention it desperately is screaming for. Because a simple acknowledgment is not cutting it anymore.

Oakwood Ave, between Masonic and Redwood Parkway was just resurfaced and it really was not that bad. When you drive down Branciforte you actually need a military grade Hummer vehicle because you are bounced around in your vehicle from the deep ruts and valleys. I have even tried to walk that street in the mornings and have difficulty simply walking on the street, needing something or someone to hang onto. Brian, please attend to this SFC complaint as soon as possible!

An issue gets acknowledged so I can get out & inspect it, I went out to Branciforte today and am currently trying to fit it into my schedule to make the repairs. The street is in need of repairs and I will get to it in the near future. Oakwood Ave. was indeed paved by city staff this week it is part of the Safe Route to Schools project, a Federally funded Grant so no measure B funds were used for that project. The reason why it was done now is because it is in front of wardlaw elementary and school is out for the summer.

Mr. M., why don't you come take a look at Branciforte Street around 8pm or 3pm any week day. You might want to bring a clipboard, take a count of the number of children walking to and from school around those times, and the significant number of schools in this area that are our kids are walking to and from! I do believe that inner city residents are still eligible for "Federally funded Grants" and even have a constitutional right to a "Safe Route to Schools".

Alternative theory:

A few months back. the already pristine section of Adm. Callaghan Blvd, north of Redwood was extensively resurfaced, and repaired, including curb cuts for handicapped access between parking lots.

No work at all, not then nor since, was done on the section south of Redwood, scarred by potholes, and most of which has neither curb cuts, nor even sidewalks! I inquired at City Hall why this discrepancy: unnecessary repairs on an already good new road, but no work done on a deteriorated road, hazardous to pedestrians and the handicapped. I was directed to observe the obvious: that the well-maintained section is bordered by big box, retail outlets much valued by the city, while the other is mostly occupied by unimportant homeowners

Actually our cities paving crew just finished paving a section of Admiral Callaghan Ln. during the last week of June . The project began at Redwood Parkway and went southbound all the way to Fleming Ave. East. It was one of our largest projects this year, second only to Severus Dr. Admiral Callaghan was a week long project we put down over 1100 Tons of asphalt and raised a total of 36 pieces of Iron on.

Brian, you are correct, Ad Callahan Way was resurfaced South of Redwood and you folks did a great job! But again, Ad Callahan Way South was not nearly in as bad shape as Branciforte, not by a long shot. I will agree that Ad Callahan South was bumpy, but did not have the deep ruts and gouges that Branciforte has currently. Anything you can do to speed up the Branciforte resurfacing would be greatly appreciated by many homeowners and renters that live in the neighborhood.

I did not take up the challenge as I did not see how a telephone conversation would help to quickly start the badly needed resurfacing. If I thought it would solve the problem a minute quicker, I would have called. I do know that when Mr. Schreiner does a resurfacing job, he does it well! I only hope he gets on this one soon as this is starting to become an embarrassment to the City of Vallejo.

Mr. Clean:
I'm told that repair work has already started -- near my house -- even before my wife phoned Mr. Schreiner. I haven't heard how the remaining five blocks of Branciforte -- in equally as bad shape -- are fairing. I'm sure that a telephone call wouldn't do any harm -- at the least to say thank you, if your block is also getting fixed.

Three things to note from what happened here:

1. Branciforte may be getting fixed at last, but there are other streets all over downtown Vallejo in very bad condition that have also waited a long time for repairs. Meanwhile, there are well-maintained streets that have the good fortune of corporate, business properties on them, and so benefit from additional, and regular maintenance and refurbishment.

2. City employees, like Mr. Schreiner, don't have the budget to fix every street, nor the authority to decide which to fix and, which to ignore. Look upstairs for that -- elections are coming.

3. The squeaky wheel does -- sometimes virtually -- get the grease. Make a nuisance of yourself, on SeeClickFix and elsewhere. It works.

Santa Clara and Branciforte are being fixed -- thank you, Mr. Schreiner. Where next?

Alun, I think you will find Mr. Schreiner, very capable. I have delt with him before and he is industrious and get the job done. In this particular case, I honestly believe he was not aware of just how bad Branciforte had degraded. So I think we should all pat ourselves on the back for bringing this overdue situation to his attention. I feel confident that he will take care of this situation in a timely manner.

Thanks for the work done so far. It's doubtful that this surface patching will last very long without any work being done on the collapsing roadbed, evidenced by broken concrete, mis-alligned gutters, curbs, and sidewalks. Fresh tar on top of broken concrete, and eroded road bed is not a permanent solution. However, for the moment, the blocks of Branciforte that have been repaired are a big improvement. We're looking forward to seeing the remaining blocks of Branciforte being repaired to at least the same quality.

All of branciforte St. Has been repaired and we have no intentions of doing anymore repairs. 4 blocks have been resurfaced and the other 2 have had permanent repairs made to them, this issue is closed.
