Call me crazy, but Route 126 could go by Concord Street to Main Street to Prospect Street to Central Street (then taking up the parking lot across from A Street), relieving the rush hour congestion on the current Route 126 due to the pointless traffic light at Hartford St.

It appeals to future tenants of the empty office buildings on both sides of the Main Street juncture to link to Whole Foods.

The medical offices all the way over on Franklin Street would get linked to the grocery if the rotary were directly accessible by the sharing of a driveway. Can the statue be deoxidized and moved forward a few yards? Since, the newfangled Main Street should again be Concord Ave and then the proposed overpass is Prospect Street.

If the overpass were a one-way street Northeast from Walnut Street in conjunction with the dedicated turnaround at the bridge, Auburn Street Ext could be a one-way street West from Hemlock Lane to avail Prospect Street of Rt 9 East. In fact, connecting Dana Road to Edgell Road in this way would make Rt 9 East speedier for Lockland Avenue.
Corrections: across from A Street is not a parking lot (it would get back in the old road what the new road takes, provided the apartments had a driveway to the new road). Also, Maple Street could replace Main Street before the bridge and then Walnut Street could become the overpass. The rightmost lane of the one-way would be the overpass and the turn-on would be on the left.

Just realized that it would be quicker for Prospect Street residents to exit through the parking lot and take the turnaround, than to travel Auburn Street-and people shouldn't have to drive through a parking lot to exit their neighborhood efficiently. It could be good to change the name of Main Street to Maple Street and then Walnut Street without building an overpass. Frankly, it could be good to make Prospect Street drain to Route 9 West without a light and to upgrade the turnaround. In other words, an invisible overpass is to have Walnut Street cross to Prospect Street but not Prospect Street to Route 9 East, reducing a light.

There are three lanes at the turnaround. If you could not go straight to get pizza, instead you could turn right and go on Oak Street to Library Street if it were an actual street in lieu of Oak Street, then you would have a dedicated lane for turnarounds, one to go downtown, and one to turn left toward Salem End Road or right.

As a matter of fact, the Hamilton Plaza turn-off could be two directions instead of a "spare lane", facilitating an underpass.

Widening the bridge 1\2 a lane on either side for a Prospect Street lane would be far more aesthetically pleasing since it makes use of the turnaround. But I wonder if the fantasy lane would cause crashes as an off-ramp and a turnaround. What if it had a yield sign? Or what if the off-ramp were much earlier at the expense of a store and the Auburn Street bridge were pursued? Then the off-ramp could yield to privileged access to the turnaround. What if the turnaround were an underpass and the whole entire highway were raised at Edgell Road? I am sure it is the popular favorite but if you are going to get that involved, might as well send Route 9 West to Edgell Road by an upgrade to Auburn Street, with an underpass for Auburn Street in the other direction, going to the turnaround which will be for it alone. To clarify: 2 1-way underpasses is superior to 1 two-way underpass.

If the off-ramp only consisted of a beautiful exit in the form of Southborough Medical of Framingham's parking lot and the repossession of Auburn Street, there would be a way to get an Auburn Street underpass beneath it!

It would be bad to rename Main Street.

The design philosophy is: the less Framingham looks elemental, the more Worcester can fit the role it was cut out for. It remains Framingham by Rt.9 being an underpass, not an overpass (at Edgell Road though not at Main Street or possibly Auburn Street which are based on Bacon Street, Natick).
