Description
The occupant of 226 22nd Avenue Southeast works on cars and runs a saw for cutting metal. Today the metal cutting saw ran from 5PM to 8:15PM.
The activity at this property needs to be conducted from a commercial work bay. Industrial style bright lights, a completely paved work area, and equipment running at various times of the day and night are part of the set-up. Today there was one truck from this residence blocking the alley. What kind of disposal system is used for metal shavings, oil, fluids, etc. A residential neighborhood is not the proper location for this business or hobby.

Is this why this can continue?
Because of our Artist Enclave designation?

An artist enclave does not allow for the illegal operation of a business in an area zoned for residential outside what the city code states. The city code allows for certain business operations to occur with restrictions, however that does not include automotive repair. I agree, as do many other individuals in the neighborhood that these antics are getting out of hand, even to the point where lives are being put in danger due to the daily near drag strip racing conditions between Bay and Beach. Myself and many other individuals in the neighborhood are fed up with this and are compiling the list of code violations including but not limited to obstructing traffic, I.e. Tow trucks dropping off inoperable vehicles, or blocking the right of way in an alley, improper parking, I.e. Parking in the front yard for extended periods of time, and noise violations. These infractions will be presented to the city to take action on and action will be taken to ensure the safety and preservation of this historic neighborhood, it's families, and it's guests. Our efforts will not cease until the appropriate solutions are carried out by the city.
As anyone can see from the numerous SeeClickFix postings these items have been reported to the city, and I use that term loosely, which has resulted in no change. The illegal operations continue, the code violations continue, and the safety of individuals in the neighborhood remain at risk. We are determined to present our case to the city in another forum and ensure they are adequately addressed and resolved.
