Description
Poor etiquette at crosswalk.
To the cross walking guy who just flipped me the bird even though I was traveling 24 mph and even though I was still 40' away from him when he completed his crossing; please chill out; your internal speed detector is miscalibrated.

E,
When a pedestrian is safely across the road (well clear of the drive lane) its a drivers right to proceed at the posted speed limit. I'd be the first to admit I don't like getting the brush back at crosswalks (which I judge to be when a car passes the exact moment a pedestrian is clear of the drive lane); but when I percieve drivers to be speeding or coming dangerously close I give the driver the downpalm handwave and lip-synch "SLOW DOWN". You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
I think the perception of danger in this location, like others in East Rock is because its at a low elevation and cars travelling west from State Street seem to be speeding as they are coming down hill (some are, some aren't). Since there is this sometimes false perception, its a textbook example of a location that could use a speed table and if that request were posted on SCF I'd vote for it. A speed table was rejected in Westville but has been roundly judged a success by adjecant neighbors on Edwards Street (I know them...they've told me).

It's true, Elizabeth. Times have changed and drivers think it's all about them now. I got hit at an intersection twice,, luckily it was at slow speed. The lady was on her cell phone, and said she was late for work.
Robn, giving the driver the downpalm lipsynch is not appreciated either.
The perception of danger is justified.. I saw a man with his child on a bicycle hit. I saw man on a small motor scooter hit. I've seen countless crashes .. the cars really are speeding.
What is a 'speed table'? If it is one of those things like radar that measures speed, I have talked to the alderperson, the police, and the traffic department to do that, to no avail.. Maybe you would have better luck with your honey.
It was accepted on Edwards St, before they put speed bumps in, because a pedestrian was actually killed there by a speeder.

NEIGHBOR,
A downpalm and lip-synching "slow down" is more appropriate than a middle finger and lip-synching "F-U".
A speed table is a square raised portion of street like at Edwards and Livingston.

ohhh we call those speed bumps,, and yes, those were put in only after a fatality.
I didn't say the slow down motion was not appropriate. I said it is not appreciated.

NEIGHBOR,
Technically the wonks call the raised intersection a "speed table" and things you drive over before you get to the speed table are "speed humps" or "speed bumps."
