Description
Central Street in recent years has increasingly become a cut through street for traffic in morning rush hour on Route 62 heading toward West Concord and Route 2. When traffic begins to back up at the Pine St/Rte 62 light, drivers turn right off 62 onto Brown St and then left Central St where they then gun their engines and drive at very high speeds down Central. I live at 273 Central St and for the last 20 minutes dozens of cars have been doing this. It is worst between 8-9 am. This is a neighborhood of many children walking and biking to school and the high speeds of these cut through drivers is dangerous and disruptive. It would help if the Concord police would periodically be a visible presence near the Brown St/Central St intersection or on Brown near Rte 62 to deter cut through driving and ticket those who are speeding. Also it would help to put up signs prohibiting cut through traffic between 7:30 -9:30 am and posting speed limit at 20 mph. I've lived in this house for many years and this problem didn't exist until several years ago. Please help.

Today I got an email saying "Congratulations! Your issue has been closed." This is the first response I've gotten since May, and the resolution, according to today's notice, is that it was referred to the town safety officer. There's no information about any action taken or review conducted.
In the 5 months since I posted the concern on ClickFix in April, the issue I raised has only gotten worse. One morning last week between 7:45 and 8:15 am, from my house at 273 Central, I counted 105 cars turning from the RT 62/Main St eastbound lane onto Brown St and then onto Central St, and then speeding down Central to Pine St, exceeding the speed limit and running stop signs. In the last few years, This weekday morning commute time has turned what for most of the 22 years I've lived here had been a quiet street into a noisy cut through street. Children who used to safely walk and bike to school at this hour can no longer do so without significant risk.
I raised the issue in April hoping the town would look into prohibiting cut through traffic in the morning commuting time, such as what was done for Highland St. I also hoped a police cruiser periodically could be on Central St near Brown St or a block further down Central to enforce the speed limit and be a deterrent to speeding. I have no idea what if anything was considered or done, only the disappointing note today saying "congratulation an your issue was closed."
If the safety officer to whom this issue was referred would contact me, I could provide further information. We in the neighborhood hope actions will be taken to address this problem.
