Description

There is a large, approximately 4 inch deep 24 inch wide pot hole on the street next to a metered parking space in front of the IHOP on Lombard near the intersection of Lombard and Pierce Streets. I parked my car at the parking space and when I got out of my car, I fell on the pothole. I fell right into the lane of traffic which was a very dangerous situation. I could not get up immediately because I injured my ankle and knee, I was in a considerable amount of pain. Lucky for me a "Big Red Bus" tour bus was at a stop light and the driver saw that I had fallen and did not drive further. I had to roll out of the way of oncoming traffic and sat in front of my parked car until I could get up. My ankle is sprained and my knee is injured. If the light was green or turned green right away, or the bus driver did not see me, it could have been a much more serious and I do believe potentially fatal accident. I feel this is a very dangerous pothole because you do not see it until you are walking right on it. As you leave your parked car on Lombard, a very busy street, you are trying to get out of the way of oncoming traffic as soon as possible. This pothole is in a place where you are right on it when you exit your car.
