Description

Please add another "Left Turn Only" warning sign on the I45 feeder (in front of Service King Collision Repair of Spring) for the left lane turning onto Springwoods Village. Currently there are two "Left Turn Only" signs but they are so close to the intersection (one is actually hidden behind tree branches) that many people in the left lane who want to go straight do not see the signs until they are almost at the intersection and it is too late As a result drivers make a last minute switch to the middle lane (many times into heavy morning rush hour traffic) or they chance it and drive straight through the intersection because that lane does not end if they go straight, even though cars in the middle lanes have the option to turn left. Other times, drivers are not even aware of the left turn only rule, and they drive straight through.

Another reason why drivers are not aware that the left lane is a "Left Turn Only" lane is that they are unfamiliar with the road. The feeder onlly recently opened and not many people are aware of the rules; additonally, in the morning there is so much traffic on that stretch of the feeder that the signage painted on the streets are not visible.

Finally that stretch of the feeder is especially popular when traffic on I45N is backed up. Drivers using that stretch of the feeder to bypass I45N traffic are usually not familiar with the "Left Turn Only" rule and the left lane is usually not as backed up as the middle or right lane because regular commuters usually do not turn left, so they stay in the middle or right. Unfamiliar drivers will use the emptier left lane only to realize last minute they have to turn left, so they make a last minute change to the middle lane into stacked traffic. Many times they are unable to get to the middle lane quickly, holding up traffic behind them in the left lane.

Many of these dangerous situations could be avoided if there were more advance warning of the "Left Turn Only" rule. This stretch of the feeder leading to the intersection is a long stretch and there is plenty of room to add advance warning.
