Anyone getting off State Street Exit 5 or coming down state street at 5 pm will know what I am talking about. Doug I know this is a DOT issue but this has become the wild west of road. I have three spots that have become soo dangerous since they redesigned the stretch from james st to hamden. It was meant to slow people down.
First one is the pic it shows the breakdown/merge lane next to the robbie len building. People are driving up it as if it was a lane and more cutting people off and there is not a day that goes by the dozens of accidents are slimmly avoided because people don't realize it is a breakdown lane or don't care. More than once I have seen I have seen people drive up onto the curb strip to pass cars. yesterday I watched one car side swipe one of the new baby trees planted. People are getting crazy at 5

Ok the next one is the intersection coming off the highway again because of rude people there are times when the traffic getting off the highway or coming down state does not move because which ever side that gets the light people run the red light so that the next side has no room to move foward. I was come off the highway it took 3 lights for me to move one car space....the light there needs to be adjusted and I think the one on willow and state does as well.

The we go up a little further to state and grace...... the breakdown lane on the side gallos is on again rude people are using it as a lane and cutting people off that are not aware that a dump cluck is riding the breakdown lane (very dangerous.) We need to get some kind of signs or stripping on these breakdown lanes.

And one more thing add to the original post....people drive up the wrong side of the street to the left hand turn lane to willow (which I don't mind if they are making that left hand turn....but what they do is cut into the traffic that is going straight on state...that is another reason why the traffic is not moving.
If someone does check this out it starts around 5 on Friday it is a little better because I think people get out early or head in other directions

I second that emotion! But seriously, if the DOT thought that making State St one lane before the northbound turning lane to Willow St was a traffic calming measure they were GROSSLY wrong. The line along the right curb should be painted over. There should be two travel lanes for the entire length of the block between James and Willow/Blatchley with the left lane CLEARLY marked as a turn only lane to Willow St.
