This would be great. The addition of sharrows on Whitney has been identified as a top priority by a number of neighborhood groups and elected officials in New Haven.

Since the city has complete control of Whitney Avenue all the way to the Hamden line, this shouldn't be a problem, right?

I mention this elsewhere on this site, but is it also possible to provide an off-street bicycle lane along Whitney Avenue. You see this in Europe and elsewhere. The sidewalk can be extended up to the street and then marked clearly so that one "sidewalk lane" is for cyclists and the other is for pedestrians.

If New Haven is dead-set against cycling on sidewalks in any form, the "sidewalk" bicycle lane could be built out of a different material, a special gravel or dyed cement, to make it clear that this is a special case.

Yes!!! Install the share-rows!!! I'm a bicyclist, but I also walk my dog in the morning and I live on Whitney ---- so I'm constantly almost run over on the sidewalk by cyclists on the morning rush to Yale ------ and I'm innocently and legally walking my dog.
Some of the bicyclists are very rude and don't realize that I and my dog have more legal right to the sidewalk than they do. One of them cursed at me this morning when he had to slow down because my dog was in his way ---- on the sidewalk!.
Get the share-rows in place on Whitney!
And in the meantime, cyclists headed to Yale to work: mind your manners on the sidewalks!!!
