I took a walk around town last night and saw that the lights were finally shining on the flag at the Veteran's Rock. They weren't shining last week. Dim or not, they weren't. The city should consider showing some respect to the flag by installing brighter lights out there. The city's effort of honoring the flag at Veteran's rock is like trying to use a straw to put out a house fire. Yes, you put light on it, but nowhere near enough to show the respect the flag is due. Yes, with a straw you put water on a fire, but nowhere near the amount needed to put the fire out.
Last night's walk did reveal that there is still work that needs to be done. The flag at the center building was still flying at 9:30PM.
If someone is responsible for this task, are they doing their job? If the people responsible for taking the flag down can't do it, then maybe they shouldn't put it up. It is that basic. You can't take it down when you are supposed to, then don't put it up.

Having given this issue some thought I came up an idea. I suggest we put our local Police Department in charge of raising the flag each morning at the Veterans rock. Then the Fire Department could be responsible for lowering the flag each evening. Both departments are "on duty" 24/7 and they are paid civil servants. This procedure would be witnessed daily by local citizens and our children would see their "heros" participating in this important patriotic display. I also feel a bright spot light pointed at our American flag would be an important thing to consider.

I think the comment above should be a real consideration. How about sending it to our local goverment and asking them to consider making this happen!

How about the City getting off their rears, and putting in some "up-lighting" that really works!
