Having lived here for years, I've slowly come to the conclusion that a modern roundabout (*not* a traffic circle) would be the most effective way to solve this problem -- roundabouts are good for intersections with heavy traffic volume.

Lately, drivers trying to make left turns from both sides of Glebe are forcing their way across opposing traffic, causing even more conjestion, frustration, and major accident potential. Drivers are also making their left turns when the light turns red. I can't say that I *completely* blame those aggresive left-turners - No left turn signal on such a busy road completely leaves them without ANY LEGAL options during rush hour. I believe, however, that more than a turn signal is required. Not everyone in the left lanes are turning left and those drivers would simply sit through the left turn arrow cycle. Thus, a whole turn lane is needed at these locations. For now, though, a turn signal would certainly be better than nothing!

There is probably too much traffic at this intersection for a roundabout to work well. But, the county needs to do something because this intersection creates a huge backup in the morning and the evening every day.

This is still a nightmare intersection
