Thank you for your message. Bicycles are very difficult for current traffic signal detectors to pickup. We are testing new detection technologies that in the future will detect bikes, no matter their metallic composition. Until we are able to deploy a proper bicycle detection technology City wide, pushing the pedestrian push button is the method we recommend using. We understand the inconvenience of doing this.

Thank you, but the vast majority of existing sensors do detect my bicycle, as did this one before the intersection received new fixtures. If most do, then it must be possible for this one to be repaired or adjusted. Going onto the sidewalk to press a button and then returning to the street is inconvenient and dangerous. Motorists don't expect it. I am "coming out of nowhere." You certainly wouldn't suggest a motorist leave their car and walk to the sidewalk to press a button. Dangerous and inconvenient, right? With all due respect, this issue needs more attention than it is receiving. Please do not consider this issue closed. Thank you.

Thank you for your comment. We have check all of the pedestrain push buttons at this location and find them working properly. Roadway sensors do have a difficult time detecting bicycles. We are experimenting with new detector devices that can better detect bikes. We do ask that bicyclist do use the push buttons until detectors to sense bikes can be installed. Unfortunately at this point in time we do not have a date when such devices will be installed City wide.

Was an effort made to adjust sensitivity? If not, please do. As shown in the video I shared, and in my experience generally, most existing sensors do "see" me. I strongly suspect this one could as well if the sensitivity is turned up.

This is an issue throughout the city

Thanks Ken. I can get some to work, others not. I reported this one because I pass it daily. I encourage you and others to submit specific requests for intersections they use so we can sort this out. Thanks again.
