Great photos. Looks like this is something that is clearly a problem for neighborhood walkability and safety.

I have forwarded the complaint to Public Works in hopes of them resolving the issue sooner then later. If this should continue longer then a week please repost or call me directly.

McVac company truck came just to clean the catch basin as they did many times in the past. But, I think didn't work.
I believe the problem is a collapsed brick made channel or sewer pipe damaged underneath the road.

MY KIDS HAVE BEEN GOING TO THIS DAYCARE FOR ABOUT 5YR AND EVERYTIME IT RAINS THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN THIS IS HAZARD TO THE KIDS THAT TAKE THE BUS AND THE PARENTS LIKE MY SELF DROPPING OFF ARE KIDS IT IS HARD FOR A PARENT CARRING A CHILD AND TRYING TO NOT FALL INTO HUGE (POND OF WATER) PLEASE SOME HAVE TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HERT.

The City of New Haven or Public Works needs to pay attention to this situation, for the sake of everybody.

Is true and I think something should be done about it because in the corner of Alton and main there are children who get dropped of There by their school bus and their is also a daycare in that corner

Good morning. I will forward the photos/concerns to the Department of Public Works in hopes of them cleaning the catch basins sooner then later. Once I receive a response from their director and/or staff I will post.

This problem has been reported to the city many time before, the problems is bigger than just vacuum the catch basin. I think they need a more advance and professional study to come up with a real solution. I lived around the area for 8 years and seem to me the problem is getting bigger.

As a owner of a nearby house (57 Main St) I always keep the catch basin constantly clean, picking up the trash from the entire corner as well. I've been doing this for about 12 years. So I don't think just vacuum the catch basin will solve this issue. It's necessary a serious inspection to the whole system (residential and commercial sewer connections around the corner) to find the problem. An initial robotic pipe inspection could be a good option.

Maybe will be a good idea to let them know with what department (s) you have been in contact over the years in the past and how many times they come with the same Mc Vac truck. I didn’t realize the commercial sewer connections are just a few houses away from you. Also, now I remember that we talked about this on going problem with the mayor John DeStefano in one of neighbor’s meeting. Did you send the photos and documentation he asked you to send?

Normally the Department of Public Works clean the catch basins. I have called Howard W. who is the Deputy Director and they should be looking into both matters. The catch basin at Main & Alton and the one at Monroe & Alton.

Its possible if the the lines have been cleaned that Engineering has to hire a contractor to replace the basin.

There is one on State Street that we have been waiting on for two years but this one seems like much more of a priority given its proximity to a corner and a bus stop.

The Engineering Department is aware of the problem and the stormwater line is scheduled to be worked on/fixed by Diversified Speciality Services (the City's Contractor) this Wednesday, April 28.
