Thank you for using Commonwealth Connect to report a service request to the City of Salem. Forest River Park is policed DAILY for trash pick ups and the emptying of barrels. Unfortunately with the over 75 barrels throughout the city, we do not have lids for all barrels.

They really need to add more trash receptacles in the summer months with picnics and more visitors to the park. In the past, they added barrels, but that seems to have stopped. Please add more barrels to the park.

Please take note that there will not be any more barrels placed at any park. This issue is closed.

If you aren't going to add more barrels maybe daily pickup isn't enough. Didn't we buy our own trash truck?

Thanks, DPS, for your hard work. If a barrel is full or unavailable, I just bring my trash home with me. Easy enough to do.

As great as it sounds to "Carry in, Carry out", this is not happening at Forest River nor is it posted for visitors to do so....the barrels are overflowing after busy weekends and trash is strewn about. If there's not a plan to add barrels or add pick ups, then perhaps "carry in/carry out' signage should be added.

It is not a carry in, carry out park. Just use common sense and don't litter.

Unfortunately, people don't carry in and carry out, they pile the trash on top of the trash barrel and it blows all over the park....that's the issue at hand, and the reason the community has brought it the attention of the city.

This is not an issue with people feeling they don't have enough space to put their trash and so need to be told to take it with them. The issue is litter at the park for 2 reasons-1. Not enough trash barrels for the volume of people using the park or not frequent enough emptying of barrels 2. Wildlife getting into the barrels (or usually just ripping open the bags left lying next to the full bins) and scattering the trash. This is a heavily used park on summer weekends and the trash disposal needs to be reexamined, hence this issue being opened. Simply saying the issue is closed DPS, does not fix anything.

Nancy people don't have common sense when it comes to trash AT ALL it seems around Salem. It seems signs really do need to be posted at Forest River. I can't tell you how many times I've picked up trash I've found when walking my dog there and thrown it in a bin that's not full. People believe me don't have any common sense, just don't care, or both.

In the 70's Forest River Park would be so filled on weekends that it would have to turn people away. People came from all over to have family cookouts and they paid a fee to enter. Today that revenue is gone and in fact residents have to pay a fee and hardly anyone uses the park. Not sure if we still have a caretaker down there but that was the key to a clean park. Our new plan is a water park in the point and the everyday calls to SPD for hypodermic needles. Once we outsourced park and grass cutting, game over. Salem saves on city workers benefits and the damage is done. When will my taxes go down to the level of service we get in return?

You can post all the signs you want and create all the rules you want. If no one enforces the rules, it's just a waste of time and paint.

It's become kind of a free-for-all at that park. No one seems to care if they leave a mess...not their problem, 'someone' will pick up after them.

This is (used to be?) the premiere park in Salem with so much to offer. Despite the good hard work of the caretaker, it's just turned into a mess from careless people.

It's pretty simple: This is just not a priority for City Hall.
