Description
The right lane should be right OR straight. Most traffic goes left or straight, so it takes many light cycles to move cars through the intersection. Allowing cars to go straight in the right lane would move way more cars.

That does seem to make more sense. With South Union being a one-way Rd, the right turn lane would never back up.

Go stand at the intersection for an hour. For 100 cars that come through that intersection, between 0-1 go right at the light. ALL others go straight or left.
This forum is to alert city departments/authorities about issues in our city, not to have debates on issues.
Unfortunately, SCF has devolved into the same pointless debates we see on social media between people who will never agree.
Again, the city has made it clear that this is the way to report on issues or bring issues to their attention. There is no other way besides this forum, which in my experience does not work, it only justifies DPW to say "we are listening" when in fact these issues are back-burnered or ignored. It's a faceless, one-sided communication between taxpayers and the staff of the city.

Discussions are a way to come to a solution. When I lived on So. Union I almost never took a left. It may be your opinion that these are pointless debates. If you really want to get something done go to the Public Works Commission meeting tonight and speak. There is a time in the beginning for the public to speak.

The Department of Public Works has resolved this request. Thanks for helping to keep Burlington a great place to live and work.

First off, it's comical that this issue was opened in July of 2016 and closed today. A year and half later to get 'action' from the Department of Public Works.
Second, DPW clearly didn't read the original issue. The right lane needs to be a 'right or straight' option. The left lane needs to be a 'left turn only' lane. As it is the left lane is 'left or straight' but this lane is backed up all the time because these are the two behaviors the drives most want to do. Pick the two most used behaviors and separate them. Use logic. People either want to go left or straight. Hardly anyone goes right, yet we have an ENTIRE LANE for 'only going right'. Again, City/DPW not reading the original issue or understanding it.
Either way, another show of SCF's ineffectiveness and ultimate frustrating for taxpayers. We are told to not call DPW, to only use this system to resolve issues, yet when we do it's a year and a half to get an answer, and then no action. We pay for these systems. We pay for DPW to do this work, or in this case not do the work.
The intersection is broken Cars are backed up to go left or straight at the light daily. The right lane is empty. Make the right lane a 'right or straight' lane and the left land a 'left only' lane and it's fixed. The solution is so obvious. It pains me DPW can not see this or will not react to this.
