THIS IS A PUBLIC DISGRACE. I also drove by there yesterday, prostitution is rampant, sex right on the street, the filth is disgusting. These people need help.

Public works, you wouldn't have to combine request if you'd clean up these encampments like you should be doing. A 72hr eviction notice, ask if they need help, no, go in there and clean up. I wouldn't want to do it either but you chose this job so please do it

Bizigirl, you are so right. The media needs to do several reports, they need to ask the mayor her solutions and see if there are results

So this was already an "open issue" according to Public Works? And yet nothing has been done. I drive this stretch of International twice a day, seven days a week. I am often sitting at the red light at the intersection at 85th, viewing the situation in its full glory. I have not witnessed one social or outreach worker, one police officer, one police vehicle, ambulance or fire truck at this site. It has become a hands-off problem--every one sees it, tells you they know about it but no one does anything. Homelessness is a big problem in Oakland and solving it is beyond the scope of a forum like this. However, when the problem is so open (tents erected on International Blvd?) and so extreme (having sex, defecating on the sidewalk in plain view of traffic & school children?), our elected officials need to take action. Clearly, this activity continues to worsen because there are no consequences for bad behavior.

It only make sense that some one is saying not to clean these encampments up. City leaders are putting citizens at risk and everyone who is fed up needs to demand some answers. The Mayor is letting it get way out of control and the longer she waits the more serious it's going to get. She should have been on top of this instead of schmoozing with the Raiders. There is a sit lie law which is not enforced, they are camped on a public sidewalk, it's illegal, illegal, illegal which is not a word any more in Oakland

I emailed both councilman Reid and Councilwoman Brooks and here is the reply from Brooks:

The more detailed information you can provide the better. Please call the OPD nonemergency number first to report theses issues. Then let the Councilperson know. It sounds as if most of the activity you reference is in district 7.

District 6 & 7 both encompass International Blvd between 82nd and 85th Ave. And really, contact OPD? That's just a push off because they are not going to respond to a victim-less crime. If we all flood both her and Councilman Reid's emails and phones concerned about this, maybe something will happen.

OPD will not respond probably unless something happens. I'm not getting why they r going to wait for this too happen. The city has no solutions, they don't want to step on advocates toes because the homeless r homeless, that's why they do what they do. I'm sorry, but one group of people should not be above the law. If they lived, had to walk by an encampment they would act fast. It's gotten out of hand and it's going to continue. Maybe call a news crew again and again, shame the city, a lawsuit, who knows. Everyone is passing the buck and it needs to stop.

So I just called public works to follow up on the service number that they assigned and was told repeatedly that there is a process, and that is has been posted to the city supervisor, but there is a process and that they will not approach the encampment as long as someone is there, and it will take a while because again there is a process. The process is a72 hr notice, social services will go out offer help, they will refuse, OPD will be called to remove them, usually the truck will be there at the same time to clean up. It's not that hard of a process. Hopefully they might be trying to remove them permanently so it might take longer. That's what I was told by a social worker who goes out and offers help. The excuses need to stop.

Why they try to evict them like they live in a house is beyond me. This is a public sidewalk, that is being blocked, probably being used as a toilet, I guess drinking and prostitution near a school is low priority. It's time city leaders get off the pot and clean this city up and they need to issue stay away orders to the homeless and make sure they don't come back

I love the idea of stay away orders, They encampment is back at 85th & Amelia Street!

This is ridiculous the city should do something about this, we should not have to see this every day.
