  We were going to the shoreline path and to get past each other, the other kids on bikes had to go into the dirt.

  We should be celebrating our access to the beach, not blocking it for some plants in a parking lot.

  This is a strange setup, you can see where the sidewalk narrows down for no apparent reason. But even then it's not like there are no alternatives, such as the wide sidewalk on the other side of the street or walking though the SS parking lot rather than doing something stupid like walking in the street. As for bike riding on the sidewalk, if you are over 12 just don't do it. Bike riding on the side walk is more dangerous that riding safely in the street.

  Hamon: If you think that this is a strange set-up, then why don't you purchase and donate a portion of the Southshore Shopping Center's planter area. Then you can request that the sidewalk be widened onto the portion of land that you donated.

  Any update on this? My understanding is that the shopping center was supposed expand the width of the sidewalk in the area during construction. Wondering why that wasn't completed then and if they could be the funding source for fixing this now. My family uses the sidewalk often and either us (a 5 and 8 yo) or the families headed are way have to step into the bushes or into the street.

  Little kids walking, scooting, or biking in the parking lot is at least as dangerous as walking along the side of a street.
  Are there any city ordinances for the width of a sidewalk? If there are, I'm sure this does not meet it.
  As for the shopping center, I would think they would want as much passing foot traffic as possible to encourage people to come to the restaurants and stores, as well as the ice rink and food trucks.

  Why can't they pull out a little bit of the plants and make the sidewalk a little wider? Are there any regulations on the width of a sidewalk in Alameda?

  This was also created as issue 2137998 in January 2016. Public Works Sidewalk 3 said action would be taken by summer 2017. What is the plan for this awful section of sidewalk?

  Tesla was able to rip up plants and install chargers, but still nothing to make even a standard size sidewalk. It’s not even easy to walk to the Off The Grid trucks.
