Thank you for your input Susan, and I can assure you we don't take matters like these lightly either. We have had a few men out there to take a look at it, and the determination has been that the "ring" extension on the manhole cover has broke. That being said, it is not the manhole cover its self that is rattling it is the entire ring. Therefore spot welding wont fix the problem. We have recently ordered a new ring and are hoping to get it in soon so we can put this whole issue to rest! Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

Thank you for addressing this issue. We know you have been on top of this noise issue and the men have been out trying to resolve it but since the last time a fix was made the sound has been different and constant and we were concerned about safety issues. Hopefully, after the new ring is installed both noise and safety issues will be resolved! We all appreciate the fact that you have listened to our concerns and have addressed them each time. Just checking in to see how we have progressed with the ordering the new ring for the manhole cover and when it will be replaced. In your response you stated that it was determined that a new ring had to be ordered and replaced after the last time someone was out to check it. That was either the last week in July or first week in August. It has been several weeks, and I do understand it takes time to requisition a part and to have it done but there must be some progress on at least having the part. Putting the cone over the manhole cover helped during the day but nighttime was a different story. The next day when my brother came home from work(he works the overnight shift) he found the cone at the intersection of Bigelow Street and Evelina Drive with the bottom chewed up from being run over. He placed it back over the manhole cover but the next morning it was gone. Unless someone from the DPW picked it up, it was again run over and dragged somewhere overnight. So now there is nothing to keep drivers from driving over it and we have gone from one thump to a double thumping every time a car or truck drives over it. As before, it has gone beyond the noise issue and is a constant reminder of a safety issue that we could be facing a flying manhole cover when it is hit at just the right angle. I don't even want to think what would happen this winter when snow plows are out there and something goes wrong if this issue isn't resolved by then. Some forward progress would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I would like to thank you for taking care of the ring for the manhole cover. This morning two men from the water department came out to replace the ring and set the cover. They also took the time to drive over the cover and made adjustments so that it fit properly before they left. My concern of a safety issue of having the cover hit just right and flying off and hurt someone or damage property and the added concern for plow drivers this winter, if the ring wasn't replaced in time, have been addressed and I thank you for that. I'm sure my neighbors will also be happy! Thank you again!

I'm glad that you are satisfied with the work being completed, however upon further inspection of the repaired ring, I was not satisfied that the longevity of the repair would be very long. Therefore, myself and a crew of guys will be out first thing tomorrow morning to "jack out" the old ring and cover, and permanently cement and new in its place! Thank you for remaining on top of this, and hopefully this will be the final repair made to this issue!

Hopefully it will be done with tomorrow! After I sent my message there was some thumping as cars drove over but not constantly. When I went out for my mail this afternoon, a car went over and hit just the 'right' spot and I noticed there was a dip in the tar right after the edge of the manhole cover( it's to the right of the cover standing in front of my house) and driving over that dip has caused some thumping. I waited for a few more cars to go by but didn't hear any noise. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but just an FYI since you are coming out with a crew. Anyway, I want to thank you all again for taking this matter seriously and continuing in your efforts to resolve this issue. Very much appreciated!!

PROBLEM SOLVED!! As you probably already noticed, myself, and a crew of guys were out there yesterday morning and made a FINAL, and PERMANENT repair. We jack hammered out the old broken ring and cover and replaced it with a brand new one, flush to grade level, and paved around it! No more loud and noisy rattling! Sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for your patience in dealing with this issue!!!

Thank you! Yes, we did see that you had a crew out and did a lot of repairs below ground to rebuild, repair and replace. We have only lived on this street for the past three years but considering at one time it was a 'country road' until the mall was built and has endured heavy traffic and vehicles, there must have been some 'structural' issues below street level that had to be addressed. We appreciate all the work you and your crew did in taking this matter seriously and working to find the solution. Also glad to see an officer was present. We did see that a barrel replaced the cones but someone did hit it overnight and saw it was upright this morning! For us and our neighbors we thank you for fixing this not only because of the noise but also the safety issue. Great job! Thanks!
