This seems to not have a solution. There are homeless encampments everywhere now.

Part of the solution is to actually start doing something... which OPD does not. I realize that there is a problem with people having a place to live... but there is also a problem that these homeless sites causes. They bring crime, vandalism and piles and piles of debris. We also seem to be picking up other cities homeless.

Come on OPD... do something.

There is a meth problem within this encampment. The City has to get this cleaned up and the OPD needs to stay on top of keeping them out. Oakland has a great Charter school starting next Wednesday. These kids will not be able to use the park or even walk by it!

Agree, time for other solutions alongside consistent enforcement of criminal codes. A long-term solution will probably include all of us with social / environmental justice groups filling the park with healthy activity and accessible health and workforce development services for (totally not new) transients living along the Oakland estuary. Am I nuts to think this is a no-brainer project for Noel Gallo's office?

What's the new charter? Beacon? I hear concerns for their safety, but I feel any nearby school community should occupy that park with their natural goodness, not avoid it. Normal use of public space is an important component of discouraging abnormal use. Strength in ordinary numbers.

There are four or five horders trashing up the water at this park in boats, too. In addition to the garbage and raw sewerage from the motor homes. Get the drug problem here under control and clean it up and then stay on top of it. The City cleans up the mess and they move back in the same day. Families and school kids want to use the park for a park!

Thank Mayor Libby. I find it odd that OPD is not doing more on illegal drug use. Is someone telling them not too?

Disgraceful mess in most parts of Oakland. NATIONAL crisis of homelessness that no leadership is talking about.

Oakland needs to take swift and decisive action on the drug camps. Oakland now has a reputation in the larger homeless community as a place to go where the cops barely mess with you. As nearby cities push the homeless out of their jurisdictions, they are moving here. Its just going to get worse unless something is done.

There are nice homeless people out there just trying to get by. They respect the community and they clean up the places that they live, but they can't do anything to stop the others who leave filth, deal drugs, and create a nuisance.

The City of Oakland addressed this issue on 03/10/2017, service request #676641.

Just because the City says it has “addressed” this problem don’t believe it. This park is probably ten times worse than when this was reported. Like most problems the City faces - they refuse to deal with it head on. Just turn the other way and tell the public “it’s closed” and “its addressed “. Leave all of us taxpayers to deal with it.

The City has not addressed this issue. The park is currently unusable for it's intended purpose and an environmental and safety hazard.

The city has done nothing to clean up this park! This is Not Closed! They got the homeless, drug abusers out of the parking areas and never cleaned even those areas after. This encampment is still in the park still making problems for anyone walking by.
