I really thought we were going to make it through April without another incident, but today a Taxi was blatantly blocking the bike lane again. When I approached him he seemed to have no idea what he was doing wrong. Are these Taxi drivers even licensed? Don't they have to know that it is illegal to block the bike lane?

I had to chase another taxi out of the bike lane here this morning, and was treated to many colorful words and phrases for my trouble. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post a sign forbidding the taxis to block the bike lane. The danger to cyclists on this corner is great enough as it is.

A taxi was once again jutting out into the bike lane on the southbound side of Harvard Square today, causing a cyclist to nearly become pinned between it and a bus that had just rounded the corner. I instructed the taxi to either pull in or leave, and was informed that apparently "seven taxis are allowed to be parked in this taxi stand at one time". This is obviously a number that must be reduced to six, since when the taxi stand is occupied by seven taxis, the last taxi has no choice but to block the bike lane. Please make this reduction effective immediately, if you value the lives of the bicycle commuters who must navigate this route.

Now that we're rid of the snow bumbers that had entirely negated our bike lanes this winter, there is no possible excuse for the taxis in Harvard Square to be parked in the bike lane. Please send a patrol through twice each morning to enforce proper parking by these taxis.

I believe this issue has been resolved, at least for the moment.
