The right lane is slowed a school crossing on Utah !!!! What your describing is what Military road was in the 1970's 80's 90's and early 00's !!! Slow down and watch out for pedestrians crossing into rock creek park it's not changing back that's what happening DDOT change this under petiontion of native washtonian of ward 3 anc/201 in 2007. So deal with it Your your sense of entitlement and assumption that something is wrong is pure ignorance of the history of the intersection of Utah and military Road

OP here. Uptownest1975, I'm sorry that you took my post to be a sign of entitlement, ignorance, and assumptions. I'm not sure that this is the proper place to be responding to you, but I'm not sure how else to... And maybe other people might misunderstand the nature of my post, and my clarification will keep them from being as offended as you seem to have been. It seems as though you thought I was saying "I want to go faster, so make things unsafe so that I can be happy." This is not true. I was saying (and I thought I was saying it clearly) "I observe an unsafe phenomenon at this intersection on a daily basis. Here's an idea for how to fix it." It is true that I'm not familiar with the decades-past history of this particular intersection, and I apologize if my ignorance of that history, and my failure to communicate my message in a way that you understood, drove you to wrath. Again, my intent was to make the world a little better and a little safer.

If you Need to be educated about the neighborhood you occupy you can make the world a safer place if you reach out to the existing communtity not just insulating yourself with transient Washingtonians with native Washingtonian just to know completely the subject matter at hand !!

I don't even know what assumption or hypothesis I have erroneously made! I see people in the right lane drive straight all the time (I'd guess that more than half the people in the right lane drive straight, at least around 6pm weekdays). That's empirical (though the exact number is admittedly an estimate). Most days, I seem someone from the center lane moving towards the right lane across the intersection, at the same time as someone from the right lane also attempts to move into the right lane across the intersection (in contradiction to the posted signs, which only permit that during morning rush hour). This necessitates swerving by one or both parties. I suspect that in some cases there might have been actual accidents (though this is just a suspicion!) There are many ways that this could be solved; I suggested one, which reflects people's current behavior, but there are plenty of others (some of which I can think of, others of which I'm sure I'm missing). Again, not trying to irritate anyone, insulate myself, be transient (I'm not!), nor do I claim to know this or any subject matter completely. Just trying to make one specific intersection, which I pass through daily, a safer place.

So you have Observed the roadway is a PURPOSELY Convexting Intersection the speed drops from 35 mph 2500-2600 block of military to 25 mph 2700-2900 military road , at 27th military road you have High school & two retirement community , the traffic cameras record speeding traffic & red light runners ... this has been a active School crossing Intersection for 65 years so how do address Ignorance of Newly assimilated Washingtonian's there's a active Radar/Lidar/IR/Video traffic cameras mounted in middle this intersection it' was just added in 2010 fiscal year ... this use to a straight away from 13th street to Connecticut avenue but traffic would move around 45- 55 mph in the 70's 80's 90's but since you didn't know there was a lot of accidents on 30th street & military road before this intersection was redesign to coverage at 27th &military road 20015 n.w. Upper Northwest Washington D.C.!!!
DDOT studied and the 2009 DDOT director "Gabe Klein created this Roadway a Convexting traffic pattern to slow incoming traffic only coming from east of rock creek park ... thus is why , if your speeding you have to SLOW DOWN to 25 mph & read the road ahead of you ... t's dangerous if your speeding down military road above 35mph .........but you should observe speed limits of city first !!because if your traveling a max limit of 35 mph . drive correctly first of all, Military road is not the AUTOBAHN
