Description
Dear Parks Department,
I am writing once again to complain about the removal of the trashcan at Waushakum beach park. This year, it was removed even earlier than usual, so that all the dog walkers have no where to put their bags, and people who park there leave trash every night. There are at least 4 cans still remaining at the Anna Murphy Playground two blocks away, why can’t just one remain at the beach for all the many people who walk their dogs there?
Also, I think it is time that the people who live south of the tracks in Framingham get to use our lake more than eight weeks out of the year. At every other lake in Framingham, there is only a symbolic gate and a sign that keeps cars out, but everyone who lives in the area can and does walk there all year, take their dogs there and launch boats there. Waushakem beach is enclosed in a chain link fence with padlocks. Only teenagers, who regularly climb the fence, can get in. Perhaps it should be like Gramercy Park in New York, where only people who live near by can have access.
I would appreciate your immediate attention to both these issues,
Sincerely
Amy Bernstein

Good afternoon Amy,
Thank you for your above email. I apologize about the delay in my response.
Traditionally, we place trash barrels at all three of our beaches during the operating season only. Due to budgetary and staffing constraints, our beach season runs 8 weeks annually.
In the past when trash barrels were left out year round at our beaches, we were running into issues with people dumping their household garbage and other items throughout the year, instead of utilizing the Town’s trash pickup services. This type of dumping is prohibited at all Park properties.
However, we are happy to accommodate your request and will be placing a barrel back at Waushakum Beach within the parking area for the offseason. I do want to caution you that we might have to reassess this practice if we run into dumping issues again.
In regards to your question about leaving the beach open year-round, I invite you to call into our Administration offices and speak with the Director, Jim Snyder, about this issue. The office line is 508-532-5960.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions with the above information.
Regards,
Thom
