I understand from speaking with my counterparts in the Department of Public Works that there was an agreement to allow Champlain College to undertake this project. The agreement did include compliance with the MUTCD rules. The agreement was approved by DPW.

DPW will be posting an update about this project on Thursday.

Still no response. It's amazing how fast the Mayor wants to raise height requirements to help his fellow developer friends but when it comes to possible illegal safety issues, there's no movement. Strange workings. Transparency is beginning to show how things are really working.

No where in any of my comments did I pose any hate statements as you erroneously point out. I am only supplying information regarding safety and possible city liability using a manual that supplies all roadway laws. Maybe before you offer a cliche statement, you would look at the bigger picture.

I really wish you knew what you were talking about. No where did I say anything negative regarding the crosswalk other than stating the laws regarding it. I don't care who the crosswalk was painted for, it's a safety issue and a possible liability to the taxpayers of the city. Maybe instead of offering your cliche comments, you would look at the bigger picture.

We are in the process of re-evaluating the applicable standard and bulletins and determining our next course of action. Thank you.

I wouldn't worry too much, every single cross-walk painting done for PR is eroding faster than the paint could dry.

Would DPW care to explain how this has been allowed to remain??? It seems to be a safety issue. From what I understand a lot of the asphalt painting in town was done without consulting with DPW. Safety issues shouldn't take a back burner to the Mayor's PR stunts.

Almost a year...No input and now the crosswalk is fading. If they are going to keep this crosswalk, at least make it visible again. I for one have no faith in SeeClickFix any longer. Great job Burlington.

Who is responsible for repainting the crosswalk and why hasn't it been done? It's terribly faded now. Regardless of whether it's determined to be legal or not, at least get it repainted.

It is DPW's responsibility.

Can DPW please respond here. I saw today that this still isn't painted and now there are more people using it. Can the DPW aknowledge that they are responsible for painting and when that will take place?

Champlain College is responsible for repainting the crosswalk. They have had paint and materials on standby since this spring, left over from the original installation last year. They have asked DPW repeatedly for months for permission to repaint the crosswalk with the materials they originally used. DPW has not given any permission or direction, so nothing has been done.

Seems fairly self explanatory. Its a violation to repaint it the way it was based on MUTCD. Champlain College should be responsible for fixing the issue the correct way.

@what Infra... Champlain College can't do anything without permission from DPW. They are well aware that they're responsible for repainting the crosswalk, but they need DPW to make a decision first. Cities can (and have) made decisions to keep art crosswalks in place, despite what MUTCD says.

Why would champlain college put the colored crosswalk back? It doesnt last and after 3 months looks terrible.

So can DPW please respond to this? Either repaint with color or find some other design, either way, needs to get repainted.
